May's has been a Wirksworth fixture for many years. Revisiting it after a gap of several summers, my partner and I found it little changed - its cramped old-fashioned tearoom layout, its honest-to-goodness pies and pastries laid out in glass cabinets, bustling friendly service, and its generally older demographic gossiping away to one another.Quality is good, choice is fair (with one or two unusual delicacies (wet Nellie, anyone?), prices are low - but if the business model works for them, who's to complain? Our light, moist carrot cake, filling cheese and onion roll (seemingly made with pickled onion) and pot of good Earl Grey for two came to just £4.10 - the kind of money that nowadays will hardly get you a small coffee and a cookie in most High Street tax-dodging coffee corporates! There are plenty of places in Wirksworth that offer a more fashionable, cutting edge approach to snacks and light lunches but May's simply has to be experienced for what it is: simple, honest, no-nonsense and supremely affordable.

Our cafe is set in the beautiful award winning surroundings of hall leys park, we offer a wide range of light lunches, snacks and cakes many of which are homemade. We are open daily from 10am and offer indoor and outdoor seating, we also supply golf pitch
I called here for breakfast one day and lunch the other with different family members. The1st day I had full English with americano and the second Ploughmanâs platter. Others had full English too and tuna mayonnaise with jacket potato salad and coleslaw. Great tasting food in a nice setting and customer service really good on the 1st day

.....whenever we have been and most recently today! Good, home cooked food at sensible prices make this a good place to stop for lunch on the way in or out of Matlock. An interesting building and definitely a one off! Shame we never pass at breakfast time because that sounds really good. Look for the specials on the board!

The Green Way Cafe is a lovely, family run, vegetarian cafe based in the centre of Matlock, Derbyshire. We are offering something a little bit different to the run of the mill cafes around, everything we do is homemade, creating imaginative and delicious

Stayed here for one night during a long-distance cycle ride in early June 2019 and couldn't be happier: the twin room was clean, welcoming and perfectly equipped with a bath and a shower. Had to check in later than expected and owner Anne couldn't have been more helpful. Full English breakfast next day was one of the best I've ever had. If you're staying in Bonsall, be mindful that dining options on an evening are very limited: the King's Head wasn't open on Saturday night (looks like it's closed down?) and the Barley Mow stops serving food at 7.50... they did take pity on us after 90 wet miles on the bike with a couple of simple sandwiches. Can't praise The Fountain more highly.

What a great place, fabulous food, my husband and I were there with our son and his two children. Everyone really enjoyed there food, and the men enjoyed their beers. Very friendly and great service.

Called in to this lovely cafe on a wet miserable Monday lunch. The friendly owner greeted and and we made our selection from the specials board, there is also a menu with something for everyone. The food arrived shortly afterwards and using good quality fresh produce, oh and the rye bread used with the Welsh rarebit was so delicious......!There were a selection of home made cakes on display which looked delicious. We will certainly be returning to sample more dishes and thoroughly recommend.

I have visited the bookshop previously but hadnât had the chance to sample anything from the cafe until just last week. As a meat eater I do enjoy the odd foray into the vegetarian side of food but have never sampled vegan cuisine. Iâve heard good things about the homity pie they do so was looking forward to trying one for myself. We visited as a family on a wet Tuesday quite lateish on in the day to find they only had one veggie homity pie left but a couple of vegan ones too. I drew what I thought may be the short straw and took the vegan one! I confess to be really surprised as there was no discernible difference between the two. As good as, if not the best, homity Iâve had! The generously sized warm garlicky pie came with a tasty side salad with some pulses and grains which was enhanced by a home made honey and mustard dressing. One of us had a warm cheese scone which looked and smelt delicious. There were a couple of wonderful looking cakes available but I was sadly too full to be able to tackle a big slice of the red velvet one - maybe next time. The cafe is a real little hidden gem most definitely worth a visit and as expected the bookshop itself is still fabulous!

The welcome here is really good. The folk are extremely helpful and friendly. There's a great range of breakfasts and varying brunches. The frozen yogurt drinks are the source of the name but these are anything but distasteful with so many different flavours. To add to the ambience its location is in a little alley just off the main road with the old buildings around to be admired.

Fresh, local food with an honest approach served in a welcoming yet eclectic setting. Mercia was born out of a shared family passion with three simple ideas at itâs core; high quality local produce, wholesome food and great service. Youâll find us in Wirk
Popped in on a Sunday morning whilst visiting the town... friendly staff and looked like a good menu. We only had a cuppa and cake which was good but expensive (4 cuppas and 4 pieces of cake = £24!)
