First time Iâve had the soup although itâs always gluten free. Sweet potato and coconut. It was lovely and served with nice gf toast.

Four of us made a return visit for lunch. Weâd enjoyed our previous meals here and were once again very happy to have come back. 3 had Lamb patties and 1 had Thai beef salad with noodles. Mains were 3 Aberdeen Angus beef pies with mash and seasonal vegetables and Seafood risotto all of us were pleased with our choices service was excellent and from lovely staff. We will certainly be coming back again.

We are a traditional English country pub that nestles next to the river coquet in northumberland. Our food is a mix of bar and restaurant, and we try and source as much as possible from local suppliers.
Fantastic menu, something for everyone, comfortable dining room, excellent value lunchtime menu and friendly service. Nine of us had lunch here (fortunately we booked as the restaurant was very busy) and we'd definitely go again.

This is a pub / restaurant with accommodation too. About 11 miles from Morpeth.
It is over 12 years ago that we last visited this pub restaurant so we were surprised when we went back for a family meal and found it has not changed in that time. The decor is very tired and in need of some repairs. Despite this we had an enjoyable Sunday Lunch. The main course was very nicely presented, well cooked and at a good price. Two out of the four starters we ordered were described as tasteless.Thank you for your review, we are in the process of changing a few things, we have already decorated the dining room & bar area with the lounge getting done over the next few months along with the new fabric for the seating throughout, after that if we can fit it in this winter we will do the restrooms. But as I hope you can appreciate this is a 250 year old building so we can not do to much as we want to keep it traditional. I am surprised to hear you didnât like our starter as we have weekly guests which have the same starter every time which they love. If something isnât to your liking next time please say something so we can do something about it. Many thanks

Rather lacklustre visit unfortunately, with a little bit of time and investment this place could be so much more !Itâs in a prime location, right on the main street but itâs tired and dated inside with an unadventurous menu. Our tuna melts were edible but disappointing and £15 for two along with teas, a bit overpriced for what we got.If you are desperate to get out of the rain for a cuppa, then go there but otherwise I wouldnât bother sadly.

Small independent restaurant offering a fantastic range of British and Italian dishes using locally sourced fresh produce.
What a disappointment this was. To have to pay on arrival was obviously because we might leave before the end of our intended visit! Enough said. Staff not to blame but seemed to be untrained and no sign of any level of management.

We popped in for lunch and the initial impression was it was a little like an old working mans pub - rather sparse and dated. The friendly waitress greeted us and explained we could only sit in the bar with a dog which was fine. We ordered the trio of sausage and mash and the haddock and salmon fishcakes. After waiting an age for the food to come (which would have been fine had it been worth the wait) I was really disappointed. The sausages my partner had were nice and he enjoyed his meal - it was nothing special but tasted nice. I had the fishcakes - well fish balls. I cut the first open and felt the middle and it was stone cold, despite the outside being really hot. I tried the second and it was the same.I eventually got the attention of the manager/owner (who was busy entertaining the two locals at the bar) and she came over. She apologised and then asked me what I would like. The options I was given was the same ones back or another meal. Had she just apologies and offered to replace my meal I would have said yes but the fact she even offered me the same fishcakes back (I am assuming after they were bunged into a microwave) made me decline. She did take the meal straight off the bill. The balls, just smaller than tennis ball size, were rather solid and looked to have been made and probably frozen. It is a shame as this could have been avoided by making them into fishcakes and not balls - simples! It was a let down for our last meal in Northumberland after a week of lovely food.Firstly to be fair I feel I must respond in the same detail and tone of your review. The decor wasnât too your liking, we donât expect to be able to please everyone all the time, we are a small independent country pub and our decor reflects this. We donât have the large budget of chain, corporate âpubsâ. Who achieve their staged look primarily due to bulk buying in frozen cheap food and having untrained unqualified staff re-heat and serve. Our priorities are instead to buy local quality ingredients and make fresh food on site. Iâm pleased your husband enjoyed his sausages. These were made in Rothbury by Rothbury family butchers further down the same street, roasted and served with fresh vegetables and home made gravy. There has clearly been a communication breakdown as we most certainly would not have microwaved your half eaten fish cakes & returned to you!I have spoken to the all staff who served you and they have assured me they did indeed apologies and offered you a replacement meal which you refused and were also credited. We are notified of every complaint to ensure we learn from mistakes and provide the best customer service we can. Again our fish cakes are also hand made by our chefs on site and in accordance with regulations stored refrigerated until theyâre cooked fresh to order. Once again we apologise that your food wasnât piping hot throughout, although when checked by our chefs Iâm assured weâre not âstone coldâTo give such a poor score based primarily on the shape of our fish cakes is most surprising.

Don't bother trawling around Rothbury to find somewhere to eat, simply go straight to the Newcastle House Hotel. Very welcoming, good quality food at reasonable price and plenty of it.
