Heartbroken to hear this wonderful place is up for sale. It is a favourite with locals and tourists Winter months you find welcoming fires and summer sees the beautiful beer garden by the riverside full of people enjoying the views The welcome you receive is always friendly Often the lunchtime visit will see you sharing the bar with walkers and dogs We came for dinner on Friday night with two friends at 6:30 The bar was absolutely jam packed (as was the car park) Both rooms were full and the noise of people laughing and chatting was just lovely. We had booked a table in the little dining room so claimed that before heading back to the barGreat choice of good beers beautifully kept We opted for Theakstons and Timothy Taylor - Both go very well with the famous ham egg and chips which 3 of us had and one of us had the home made pie and chips Absolutely delicious as always. If you want to experience a real dales pub with proper food instead of the standard sterile mediocrity then this is the place to visit.

Castle Hill, Middleham, Leyburn DL8 4QR Phone: 01969 623665Great little tea room with about 4 tables.Home cooked food. I had the cheese sandwich which came with an ample salad and lovely salad dressing, and roast tomato and garlic soup, followed by lots of tea.Proprietor is a nice chatty chap. All looked spotlessly clean.Recommended

Visited the Blue Lion last Saturday to celebrate my birthday.Had the fixed lunch menu which was ideal and delicious, the staff were very attentive and with a roaring fire all led to a relaxing and enjoyable occasion.Even though the pub was very busy with visitors , shooting parties and locals this all gave an impression of country life at its best .For what we had the bill was more than reasonable and I can recommend the Blue Lion to anyone out this way for lunch or dinner.

Stayed in Middleham for a long weekend and pre booked a table for two on NYE. Canât fault the food- very good. Staff were friendly but clearly understaffed which was surprising given the number of pre booked tables. Luckily we didnât want the steak or salmon as both had ran out before 7. 30pm. We enjoyed the food but were lucky we had an early table. I imagine those after us waited some time due to poor planning which doesnât reflect the efforts of front of house staff who were only too willing to help.

We stayed overnight, as well as dining, at the Sandpiper Inn and found it faultless. On arrival, before opening time, we phoned and were promptly met at the front door and shown to our room. Details of our dinner booking were confirmed, as well as the time that breakfast is served, which was reassuring. The room was comfortable, decorated in keeping for a quality country inn, relatively spacious and had fine views over neighbouring properties to countryside beyond. Mandy provided a friendly greeting at the bar and, in fact, everything front of house. She also kept us informed throughout in relaxed and reassuring fashion. This reassurance extended to dealing with our inquiries about gluten-free food with all the information at her fingertips. It was a Tuesday evening and both bar and restaurant were busy without being noisy; in every respect it was a comfortable place to be. Each course at dinner was a delight and exceeded our expectations. The food was attractively presented, interesting without being too challenging and perfectly prepared. We tried a wine from Portugal that was new to the wine list and loved it; what a great recommendation and served at just the right temperature. The young waiting staff didn't put a foot wrong.Despite the room being over the bar and entrance onto the street, we were not disturbed by noise at all. The bed was a standard double; we thought perhaps a larger bed might be more comfortable but we slept well - even missed our alarm! Breakfast was just right - delicious and wholesome without being too heavy. Again, Mandy's service was spot on and she also handled check-out. In passing, she mentioned that the double beds are being replaced with king size - so our only improvement idea is already in hand. We felt that the pricing was very reasonable. It was not a 'budget' stay but taking the price and quality together, we knew we'd like to come back again, and soon.

it is advisable to prebook for a meal at this establishment. You will not be disappointed. The restaurant has a lovely peaceful ambiance without "musac"blaring out. We were given a warm welcome and shown immediately to our table. There was a wide ranging lunch menu all of which were attractive. My wife and I chose the roast beef lunch, I had a starter she didn't, my starter was excellent and beautifully presented. The main course was more than adequate in portion size the beef was beautifully cooked and full of flavour accompanied by a selection of vegetables. The staff all young people were very efficient and very polite. The restaurant became quite busy and the staff dealt with the guests without fuss or frustration. There is ample parking and level access for the less able and the toilet facilities were spotlessly clean. Well done to the chefs and staff it was a pleasure to eat there.

A truly unique dining experience, with sumptuous food, handpicked wine from our award winning cellar and a relaxing atmosphere. Our unique selling point is twofold. Firstly to have a unique dining experience where customers can go and choose their own win

We only called in for coffee whilst driving to Alnwick but I am glad we chose the Richard III Hotel. It is an interesting, old-fashioned pub with a distinct leaning towards the Sport of Kings as the rooms contain a lot of horse racing memorabilia. The welcome was friendly, even though we were only having coffee, and the service was quick and efficient. The coffee was good and, looking at the menu, there seemed to be a good choice of meals. Hopefully, next time, we will have more time and be able to try the cuisine.

Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer may be within easy reach of the A1 and M6 but it still feels totally rural. A traditional white-washed inn complete with leaded lights and swinging sign, The Wensleydale Heifer gives th
We were staying in Stow House about 6 minutes away and the proprietor there kindly recommended and booked us a table at The Wensleydale Heifer on our first night - it did not disappoint. We were seated in the bar area, which we had to ourselves for most of the night. Dogs are welcome and there were groups of people enjoying the ambient atmosphere in adjoining rooms. There is a wonderful balance of a relaxed and welcoming vibe with Michelin star quality. The serving staff are exceptionally polite and attentive. The highlight for us was the main meal...we highly recommend the slow roast beef, which we both ordered from the daily specials menu, we cleared our plates and savored every mouthful; it went perfectly with my glass of Malbec. The menu is extensive and you will find fish, steak and lobster feature heavily. There is a car park but it is a tight squeeze down the entrance/exit (between the hotel and another building) and I fear very wide or large vehicles would struggle to manoeuvre around it. There is also parking on the road. We would certainly visit again! Enjoy!Thank you so much for taking the time to post your lovely review.I am so pleased that you had a great time and enjoyed all aspects of your stay with us.I am delighted that you enjoyed some of our new seasonal dishes and I have passed your feedback onto the chefs. We all look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
