We are located in a Victorian House dating back to 1842 with beautiful grounds to be able to stroll in and with lots of history. Our Tearoom is very English and beautiful decorated with our waitresses in period custom serving lunch or afternoon tea.
My sister and I visited Mabelâs in August. The staff are accommodating and flexible due to unforeseen circumstances we had to push our booking back and the staff accommodated our request which was much appreciated.Pros Unique venueBeautiful grounds Delicious substantial sandwiches Everything was very fresh and well presentedScones were delicious but smallThe mini Vol-au-Vent were out of this world I wish we could had moreFriendly and knowledge staffConsParking is extremely limitedDecor/style wonât be go everyoneâs taste but if you like quirky and vintage you will love it Cake selection was a bit average albeit nice but after the sandwiches and cakes on display we were expected more. I think I would have preferred to have the selection of homemade cakes as part of the tea Toilet is a bit of a mission if your have limited mobility or are pregnant Itâs not a place we felt to leisurely have your tea and chat as space is quite limited but we didnât feel rushed by the staff Some places will offer additional scones sandwiches to be fair we didnât ask as we didnât get the vibe it was an option perhaps it wasPossibly slightly pricey but in keeping with London prices and the area no doubtWe enjoyed our visit and I think we would go again with friends who would enjoy the vintage element. Itâs nice not to have to trek in London to enjoy an afternoon tea.

I went with a friend to sample the Italian menu. This restaurant has an excellent reputation and I have had good meals there in the past. Unfortunately on this occasion my friend and I were very disappointed. The food was at best mediocre and did not justify the price. My calamari started was overcooked and verging on rubbery. The garlic sauce over salted. My main dish of sea bass was again overcooked and not as fresh as it should be. The accompanying aubergines were very oily. My friend had the chicken, which he said was nothing special and quite bland. A waitress came several times to ask if everything was OK, but did not wait for a full answer. We will not be visiting again.

We ate here on Sunday evening and the food was fabulous. Our starters were the Chicken Satay Skewers which were moist and flavourful and the Creamy Goats Cheese with red onion marmalade. Both plates (almost licked) clean. The mains were Beef Strogonoff and Stuffed Chicken. Both dishes were well cooked and very tasty. Clean plates again. The new Chefs sure know how to cook. Keep up the good work !!

WE wandered into Borehamwook hoping ot find somewhere for a quick coffe before we set off on long sectin of london Loop walk, Fund this palce and were sotaken witht he menu we ordered coffee and cakes for our elevensesand then take away sandwiches to eat later. Fantastic bagels cooked on the premsises but therew was a much wider choice of home baked breads. The fillings too all seemed home made and of great quaiity. All very reasonably priced. Comfortable seating and loads of characters wandering in and out. Strongly recommend this for breakfast and lunch.

Booked a table for 4 on the telephone. Warm and friendly voice (Alistair I think) given a seat whilst we awaited arrivals of other guests. A drink in hand and advised to order meals at the Bar. Service was Good and attentative, food was fresh, tasty and plentiful. We spent a lovely afternoon and was not rushed. Will defo return and have already recommended to friends.Hi AvrilThank you for your review.I'm so glad to hear that you were well looked after and our team were attentive to your needs, and that the food was equally good. For a cafe, the menu is extensive from the usual breakfast staples, sandwiches, panini to burgers, pastas and a la carte. The food was very good for the price so itâs definitely decent value for money. They only accept cash so come prepared. Whilst busy is good for business, being crammed so close to other tables was quite awkward. Service was also a bit slow but I guess thatâs understandable.

I just saw a really good film on Netflix called Yucatan. Thoroughly recommend! It's about a long series of ingenious and complex swindles with the intention of convincing an elderly lottery winner to give up his fortune.Unfortunately for me, Battle Axes and their brewery Chef & Brewer have managed to concoct a heist of equally dastardly proportions - and this time it's not a fiction. The staff told me that vouchers can't be used on the following promotional menus or deals; Wednesday burger & drink, Thursday steak deal, Friday cod & chips deal, Saturday sirloin deal, discounted lunch and evening set menus.I accept that I should have checked before ordering but when you go to a pub for lunch and see the word "lunch menu" (the words discounted not featuring anywhere near this by the way) you don't then have to expect to be unable to use your voucher! The waitress, Jade, who had an awkward demeanor (exacerbated by an inability to stand up straight) was stubborn and patronising in dismissing my complaints.I also HATE table service in pubs. You're not a pub, you're in a restaurant! I hated the awkward shape of the conservatory we were put in making sitting angles atrociously uncomfortable.Lunch menu choices were dull.In the immortal words of Garth, my ex-colleague: if every person in a restaurant is white British, it won't be good!Yucatan; available in all good dvd retailers, and some rubbish ones as well.Dear Mr "Yucatan"I am sorry you didn't enjoy your visit, however some of your information is non-fiction in regards to your description;firstly the chain name is chef and brewer not the name of the brewerySecondly as you said which it states on the Tesco vouchers you must notify a member of staff on arrival that you have Tesco vouchers or will be using them towards your meal not after you have ordered and its ready.Thirdly not only does it stated this information on the Tesco vouchers which you haven't copied and pasted but it also says this on the lunch menu that you chose to order from. Fourthly you can dislike table service in a pub however we are a restaurant so this is irrelevant to a pub like environment if you wanted to not be looked after you could of sat in the bar area and ordered at the bar no table service .another fact to provide you with is what you have written about our member of the team is not only victimizing but also very rude especially when you don't know them and I will inform you she has a disability and to knock someone like that makes you look like an "Ableism ! " Lastly everyone is entitled to there opinion on sitting or tables however this is a listed building so this will not change any time soon.so once again thank you for your delightful review !!

The chip shop is both eat in and takeaway and was quite busy on a Friday evening. There were several servers/fryers behind the counter but despite this the service was so slow and at times it looked as thought no-one was actually being served. Despite this the fish and chips were well done and the portion sizes were huge.
