Friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, served hot and tasty and well above expectation. The Chef clearly has pride in his cooking and we will certainly be very happy to dine there again. Very much enjoyed our visit, particularly as the pub was very toasty with it real fires burning. Well done the Wheatsheaf.

We called in for lunch unannounced and were made very welcome. We had the â tapas to share â washed down with Harveyâs bitter and Pinot respectively . Tapas were an excellent mix with plenty for two of each of the 5 dishes included . Beer was well kept and served & wine chilled just right . Overall a very pleasant way to pass a lunchtime - excellent value too .

By sheer co-incidence we had Sunday lunch here on the same day as Richard the Third's remains were taken to rest at Leicester Cathedral. I say this as this traditional Sunday lunch would have suited him and his ancestor Henry 8th perfectly. A beautifully carved mound of rare roast beef that melted in the mouth plus a lavish selection of roast vegetables, the crispiest roast potatoes, superb yorkshire pudding ( ideal for Richard of York!)and lashings of red wine gravy. The temporary silence at the table said it all. Just superb. Being greedy by nature, we all opted for home made puddings too which completed the meal perfectly. With a couple of bottles of wine the unbelievable price was £25 per head. This could become a regukar treat for us this most traditional of pubs which was delightfully snd peacefully infant-free.

Popped in based on the reviews on Tripadvisor - wasn't disappointed. Had the asparagus, ham & tomato starter which was very tasty & well cooked. Both had the beer battered cod & chips which was piping hot, large & tasted delicious. Just what we wanted on a rainy day. The staff were friendly & attentive. When driving there be aware there aren't any signs from the A26, just head for the railway station, past all the parked cars which are on the road & the pub is on the corner, pub car parking just round the corner at the back of the pub.

The most traditional English pub for many many miles serving Harveys real ale (& others). Log burning Inglenook fireplaces add to the truly authentic atmosphere. Beautiful views over the Sussex/Kent border & the local 9 hole golf course. The perfect place
Lovely friendly staff but hugely disappointed by the food. 1970s Fayre, overpriced. Pavlova dessert was scandalously bad (packet rock meringue). Sludgy Scampi with micro peas. Same price level as Neville or huntsman but not in the same league. Sorry to say this, but we'd so love this to be a great local pub.

The only problem with pubs are their limited selections of wine by the glass. I was lucky here and had a good Chilean Chardonnay. There were several dogs with their owners all behaving. I had the bangers and mash and my wife had the lamb shank both were very good.Thank you very much Bob and CindyWe are pleased you enjoyed your visit and look forward to seeing you again.

Thank you once again Peter (Maitre'D) and Kat (Dedicated member of staff) for a superb Birthday Evening for my wife. Welcome To The Blue Anchor in Crowborough Serving Food Monday to Saturday 12-3pm & 6-9pm Sundayâs 12-4pm A Warm Welcome Awaits From Amy and Her Team
When last in England, and driving to London through Crowborough, we passed on our left a modest building modestly proclaiming itself to be a Country Pub with Dining. Turning round and going in, we soon realized our mistake in passing it . The modesty of its self proclaimed status belies the remarkable achievement of its owners and staff - this is a great welcoming genuine unpretentious pub with all the character of a country inn, with great dining in a large separate area with lovely decor. The food is as good as you will find anywhere , with a wide ranging menu and ample portions ( unlike so many other places ). Squid, terrine, risotto , dressed crab , salted caramel torte and ice cream we had were fantastic. The service is excellent - charming , welcoming, attentive without being intrusive and professional to a level far beyond the youth of the staff. People and their children are happy here . Outside there is a large area with tables and a large car park. A great deal of thought has obviously gone into creating such a great welcoming place.
