Traditional 16th century country pub located in the heart of Devon. Serving good locally sourced, home cooked food, local cider and fine ales. Gluten free and vegetarian option available on the menu.
We stopped in here for lunch today, great local village pub, great welcome, dogs on a lead welcome in the bar area, lovely atmosphere, Happy bar staff and waitress service. We had a Roast Beef dinner, very good portion of meat, more than enough Proper Roast Potatoes and 4 large portions of Fresh Vegetables, couldn't fault anything, will definately visit again, difficult access to the Car Park but plenty of parking available.

Pub/restaurant
For several years I looked forward to visiting the Lymington Arms - varied menu, good choice, food well cooked and presented, friendly knowledgable staff and excellent service. All has changed. The menu is very limited - pub grub at its worst. The staff are novice like and the service is below par. The food is inadequately cooked - my medium/rare rump steak came as well done ( I rarely order steak when dining out unless there is simply nothing else attractive on the menu !!). The atmosphere is nothing like it used to in the past. The acid test is always whether I would readily return to an establishment. In this case I cannot envisage a return at any time in the near future.
We went here for lunch after a couple of recommendations. I don't know if it was because we were the only customers or what but our lunch was pretty poor and that's being charitable. We both had 'large' battered cod and chips. The cod was small and the batter strange, possibly the effect of being kept under a hot lamp for far too long. I would be very surprised if the fish had seen the inside of an ocean any time this side of last summer. The inside of a deep freeze, maybe. The chips were tolerable but far from good, bog standard frozen at a guess. At least the peas were okay. It came with really unpleasant bread (Tesco Blue Line by the look of it) and hard, odd tasting butter. The one real ale available, Tribute, was just about okay although as it is not my usual choice, I cannot be sure. The place is large but oddly claustrophobic due to the number of tables crammed into the place, many roped off. The stuffed hunting trophies adorning the walls are unpleasant but, i suppose, par for the course in this part of the World.Plus point - reasonably priced but anything else would have been an insult. The recommendations came from people whose opinions I would normally trust so I don't know what went wrong today but we shall not be returning.

Under new ownership, The Kings Arms is a traditional pub with great ales, wines, gins and a fabulous menu
Wow, the Kings Arms is back to being a fabulous country pub again and boy does it deliver. Fantastic food, lovely beer and a real pub vibe, no juke box or machines, just friendly local chatter with incomers made to feel most welcome. The Sunday lunch, beef, is stunning and filling, the menu during the week is varied and again itâs all cooked to perfection, including the chips Definitely 5*

My accommodation was very new and comfortable. Far above what I would expect at a pub. This was the best shower I have experienced in England. I also had a very nice vegetarian meal. There's a very lively scene in the pub, but it didn't disturb me in my room.

Woody & Carolyn welcome you to The Kings Arms, South Zeal, a traditional local pub which is over 500 years old. We are open all day, everyday, offering a fine resting place for locals & visitors alike. Our selection of real ales is accredited by the CAMRA
Good selection of beers.Staff did not ask how the food was. I believe this is because they already know the answer!I was very disappointed with the lack of salad in the burger. The microwaved bun could of been of more use as General Building Material in the construction of houses!Would definitely not eat here again, food did not appear to be prepared by someone who enjoyed there job!Very sorry to hear this, it is not what we would expect and not in keeping with our normal practice as our other reviews would suggest. As it is not clear when you visited we will speak to all our staff - we do ask that they check all customers once their food has been served - however if you had alerted them to the fact that you werenât happy they would have done their best to rectify the situation at the time. We will also speak to our kitchen staff to ensure we continue to meet the high standards that our customers expect from us. I am sorry to hear you wonât be visiting us again as I do believe this was a one-off, unusual situation, which we would have preferred to resolve at the time. Kind regards, Carolyn (Landlady)

Took my dad here yesterday lunchtime. Heâd been a number of times before, but my first. A nice welcome banter from the jovial barman/owner. We ate in the bar. Both had starters and main courses from a short menu which had something for everyone. All were fresh, tasty and good portions. The ham hock terrine and the scotch egg starters were particularly good. Cost was reasonable for the area. I would definitely recommend and would come again.Dear Peterj2010Thank you for your lovely review of The Oxenham Arms South ZealWe are so pleased that your Father and yourself enjoyed lunch. We have a completely different menu for evenings of course so hopefully one day you may come and try our evening menu either in the bar or restaurant. Thanks again !Lyn and Simon PowellThe Oxenham Arms South Zeal

The Tom Cobley Tavern is a small country Tavern which serves the parish of Spreyton and the surrounding area. It is the hub of village life; on most evenings locals meet for a game of darts or cards. Enjoy a relaxing break in a typical unspoilt village lo
We ate an evening meal 5/8/19. We both really enjoyed the food, the service was lovely and all the staff were really friendly. I had the homemade pie and the pastry was exceptional. My wife had the burger, which was homemade as well, she really enjoyed her meal too. Wouldn't hesitate to visit this delightful family pub again
