We came across the Cock & Rabbit whilst in the area on a recent Sunday afternoon being aware that The Lee regularly features in Midsomer Murders. We parked in the car park and then walked through the restaurant area to a bar. The lady behind the bar recommended the Night Owl Dark Beer from Somerset which I tried and it was good. Mrs FB2000 had a glass of white wine, and the round was significantly cheaper that what I am used to.We then walked round to the other small bar where a few friendly locals were having some Sunday afternoon drinks and welcomed us in the banter and story-swopping. There were also a couple of very friendly dogs in the bar. We had a very enjoyable hour or so in the bar !The menu looks very inviting but we did not eat here. We would happily return here if we are in the area again.

This is basically a large, modern, soulless restaurant bolted on the back of a pub. If you're expecting anything remotely traditional by way of a meal in a country pub, you'll be sadly disappointed. You could just as easily be in a warehouse at the back of an industrial estate for all the difference it would make. That said, it's fine. The service was a little on the slow side but always friendly and the food was very good too. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the number of babies and children (on a Sunday lunch time) but it did make it feel like an upmarket McDonalds. (To be fair, there's plenty of other places that suffer on that front too!). It's worth checking the bar (meaning a trip to the adjoining pub) to see if they have any local ale available, tho I suspect if beer and pubs are your thing then this probably isn't the best of choices for somewhere to eat.Hi Doob123,Not quite sure how to feel about your review.As I'm sure you can imagine, it's never nice to be described as "soulless", "in a warehouse", etc. The team work bloody hard, know their business, enjoy the work and love the pub. We trust that this comes through in the friendly service and tasty food that you enjoyed - all delivered with passion and care. Beer and pubs is very much my thing - I've the waistline to prove it - and I'm hugely proud of both the Polecat and the people who work in it.Having said that, please do accept our apologies for the sluggish service. Things can, regretfully, lag at times during Sunday lunch. This irritates us as we're proud of our service. Sunday lunch, however, is one of our busiest services at the end of the day and, try as we might, the odd slip can occur. Please do rest assured that speedy service is something that the entire team is dedicated to delivering. You're quite right in your observation re: children - it's a pub on a Sunday. We're a pub open to everyone and enjoy a local reputation for being very welcoming of children. Sunday is very much a family day for us.We'll always have local ale available as Malt Brewery is 888 steps down the road (Seriously. We checked. Your step count may vary slightly) and we're huge fans of what Jenny and Nick produce. They're proper craftspeople and we're absolutely delighted to stock their ale. Do pop in to their shop if you ever get the chance. You will not be disappointed.If you do decide to return, I suggest asking specifically for a table in the older part of the pub. It's C17th, choc full of roaring fireplaces and low beams and charmingly pokey and wonky in places - as cosy as you get. Food was very good with a good selection, cooked by a proper chef, ranging from imaginative fresh fish and chorizo combinations, through wood fired pizzas and the usual pub favourites.Beer was good too with well kept Rebellion IPA amongst those available when I visited.Service was friendly and efficient too.

Lovely pub great atmosphere. Had the chicken thighs which was bland and boring also fish and chips with chips and peas but hardly filled the plate. Tiny portion of peas and fish was dull. Batter flat and tasteless. Felt like we were on holiday agreed where they were trying to replicate british pub food.

Attending a event in the local area and being about lunchtime we googled the local surroundings for a recommended pub..Plenty of parking space and easy to find you soon realise that this is a popular pub. Kid friendly with a well maintained play area and dog friendly it will tick everybodyâs list.Plenty of outdoor space to sit and a new extension which looks like itâs going to offer a bar/ barbecue area ,just in time for the summer.The interior offers plenty of space with a rear room which has plenty of tables and a additional bar.The staff are friendly and engaging which always goes a long way.We went straight for the mains and we were not disappointed by the portion size and the quality of food. You will definitely walk out feeling stuffed. Price is absolutely on point and we were more than happy with the bill and service. A great little find and one to remember.Oh and Sunday lunch offers a Nut Roast for the veggies/vegans amongst us.

Although the weather was dull, the atmosphere was great. Lots of choice of local craft beers, more gin choices than you find at a supermarket and some good cider too. All accompanied by live music and a bbq. Lovely village atmosphere with people of all ages enjoying the long weekend. Well worth supporting your local pub. Thank youI glad you enjoyed yourself. Sadly, there are increasingly few pubs like this one left in the Chilterns as the more traditional inns either close or get turned into chic but overpriced gastropubs. The Hampden Arms remains untouched, much as it must have been fifty years ago or even earlier. The atmosphere is great, the decor is full of quirky character, the welcome and the service are both good and the food and beer are not just decent quality but sensibly priced. I had a beautifully tasty pint of Addlestones Cloudy Cider and a big plate of ham, eggs and chips. Definitely one of my favourites in the area.

I love this pub and eat here frequently. The menu is always varied with a choice of fresh and seasonal produce. Tonight we had fillet steak and chips and a salmon dish. Both were, as always when we eat here, cooked to perfection. The Swan is a charming old pub which oozes character and we like to sit by the fire in the winter. The staff are always very accommodating and cheerful and we canât wait to try the food on Vegan night next month. Even though we arenât vegan we are excited to see what the chefs will do with the menu on that evening. Thanks team Swan, keep up the excellent work

Nice old (15C?) pub/restaurant in leafy setting except cars speeding by and potentially dangerous T-junction. A bit expensive (more than £39 for fish and chips and cheeseburger and chips and two glasses of fruit juice) for just the two of us. Food well presented and substantial. Salad over doused in vinegar or sharp dressing. Young girl staff pleasant and attentive. Overall it's potentially a nice place but dining tables too close to each other and a bit pricey for what's served. Bit marred for us by two old ladies next to us with really loud shrill and "refined" regal voices talking at length (over 25 mins) and detail about one of them having recent delicate plastic surgery (legs) with then extra skin peeled from hips, and previous ops they'd had! Followed by debate on best wound dressings and nursing and then prolonged wretched death of dear relative. Would have made good Monty P sketch! Too timid to tell them to go quieter. Can't blame inn for all that but it mattered to us..........!

We had a great value Travelzoo voucher for 2 courses and a glass of fizz. The setting is idyllic, the young staff are lovely and very efficient and the food is fabulous. As we walked in I saw the Thai menu and assumed it was only available on certain nights, so was very pleased to be given this menu as well as the standard one as it was included in the deal. The curry was very pleasingly hot (maybe too much for some people but perfect for me!). A great place, and I hope to return.
