Popped in after a bit of shopping for a snack, nice range of sandwiches on offer and some local ales! Palmer Copper was there, so a no brainier. My wife had a cheese and pickle, and I had the Croque Monsieur (cheese & ham toastie). Both excellent! Nice atmosphere too!

While stopping in the area we visited for a family meal on our last night of a family holiday. Party included 6 adults 1 toddler and 2 under one year olds. Nothing was too much trouble and we made very welcome and seated in the restaurant. The food was great and all the family enjoyed our evening. We went outside into the garden for coffee and the children enjoyed the small play area. Great evening to end our perfect family holiday in Dorset. Would certainly visit again if in the area.

Looked for somewhere new to try and also happy to have dogs. Along with an amazing view. All we cans say is very warm welcome - clean neat tidy dog happy in bar and the outside seating area had a most exceptional view. The food choice was far reaching without being over stretched. Coffee nice not strong great thought had been given to the Ploughman's and the refried chips would even have pleased that doyen of refried chips Nigel Slater. If you are seeking a vegetarian ploughman's ensure the cheese option has no pies. Both meals were ample portions and the desert was like the mains very nicely presented. We in short were pleased. If unsteady on your feet a few steps and wobbles but nothing you could not deal with. Cheaper options would be the sandwiches or work to the mains and desert for £10 on the specials board. So a fair priced menu but the food does punch above its weight.

Tracey & Steve Brady would love to welcome you to The Marquis of Lorne, a 16th Century Country Pub & Inn, nestled in the beautiful hills of Nettlecombe, Dorset. We have featured in guides such as; AA Top 500 Places to Stay, Cask Marque Award of Excellence
Not been back here since a year ago. Were a bit nervous, having heard on booking that owners Steve and Tracey were on a night off tonight, but need not have worried. Food was as always, quite outstanding:Venison casserole was bursting with flavour, meat firm but tender. Vegetable sides were just right, slightly firm texture and full of fresh flavour.Venison hamburger was full flavoured and the sides were to die for - coleslaw was obviously freshly hand made with a beautiful tangy sauce and light, crunchy texture, side salad was with a dressing that was lip-smacking. Battered, deep fried crispy onion had the crispest, lightest texture and yet just the right amount of caramelisation to stand up to the richness of the venison hamburger. No frozen onion rings here!Lamb chop was also tender and flavoursome, accompanying chips had a lovely crisp, light outer with a fluffy interior, the best chips I have EVER tested bar none! The menu is wide enough to give plenty of choice, yet still everything shows the depth of attention to detail in fresh, home cooking that sets this place apart from the run of the mill restaurant. If this was in London, you'd pay a hundred pounds a head to get food of this quality, but the prices at the Marquis are firmly mid-range. Beer (Palmer's hand-pulled ales) are kept exceptionally well, wines by the glass are very drinkable and good selection of gins.

We are a traditional country pub set in the village of broadwindsor in beautiful Dorset, serving fresh home cooked food and fine Palmers real ale. With a large open fire and stone walls, patio garden and smoking shelter. We welcome families, well behaved
Both the barman and the lady serving our food were very pleasant and friendly. The First Press Dorset Cider was delicious and the pub had a good atmosphere with both locals and visitors. I had breaded brie followed by fishcakes and my wife had a goats cheese and red onion tart which she felt was more like a quiche. Nothing at fault with the food but it was uninspiring. Thank you for leaving your review, we are sorry you felt we only achieved 3 stars. We strive to provide fresh home cooked food, value for money, clean and tidy surroundings and pleasant atmosphere,.

This is a nice old British pub and the staff were nice and friendly. The service was good and the prices fairly standard for the area and type of fun. The food though wasnât good. The fish, scampi and chips were frozen and bland. The curry was ok but no better than you can cook at home and the rice was over cooked. The ploughmans was good but a very small portion for nearly a tenner. I reckon itâs much better on certain meals and we may have been unlucky with our choices.

Where to eat British food in Beaminster: The Best Restaurants and Bars

Deep in the heart of Dorset lies the market town of Beaminster. The Greyhound is located on the market square in the town centre. This traditional pub prides itself on the excellent home cooked food and real ales. The pub is very much family orientated an
The chalkboard outside says Muddy Paws and Muddy Boots Welcome. There is a menu board outside with two sets of prices, obviously Small and Large dining prices. Inside above the bar is a host of Specials. The welcome was warm and friendly. Two mains at full price from the Specials and two halves of lager was £26, which I considered that a very good lunch considering that the plates were full. It is definitely a 'locals' pub, who, for a visitor were very helpful and ready to engage in conversation. The kitchen closes at 2pm, but a flurry of customers turned up and the kitchen stayed open. In this day and age, that is what I call Service.Thank you so much for your lovely review,we are glad you enjoyed our friendly local pub, hope to see you again soon.kind regards Gail
