Stayed in the caravan site. Lovely site, although only one toilet in the men's (don't know about the ladies!) Although close to the road, very little noise. Virtually silent at night... Perfect!Ate in the pub. Lovely vibe on Friday night. Very busy! Decorated oddly... Lovely traditional looking pub, but decorated with surfing items?!?! Doesn't really go as we're in the countryside, near Dartmoor! Very odd. Food looked amazing and tasted generally ok. Had a breakfast the first morning. Lots of food and we'll presented. Tasted a little bland and only just warm! Ate Sunday lunch there today, and similar thing. Just lacked seasoning and again, only just warm. Not at all hot enough for me. Looked lovely and good portions, just didn't taste as good as it looked! My pudding was very disappointing. Ordered sticky toffee pudding, which wasn't at all sticky and tasted like the cheap Jamaica ginger cake you can buy. This was accompanied by a tiny amount of custard. No toffee sauce, as one would expect!!! Very disappointing, especially for £5.50!! Generally quite expensive. If the food was hot and had more taste, it would have been worth it. Alas, it didn't meet expectations. Would I come back? To camp - yes! To eat - maybe... Would perhaps see if a third meal is better!

The Live & Let Live A pub "great friends, great stories, great food - the beating heart of a local community"
This lovely Inn tucked away along little lanes, was well worth the effort of driving a bit off the beaten track. Visited, with my daughter, on Tuesday evening to find an extremely reasonable set menu of their 'leftovers' WOW! we were blown away with the quality, service & price. Really tasty, perfectly presented food such flair & imagination. The New Zealand wine wasn't overpriced either & packed a punch. Just perfect on all levels. Doubtless to say we have booked for next Tuesday.

The Carpenters arms is under new management. We are a traditional country pub serving a Fantastic selection of local brewed cask ales direct from the barrel and a great range of draught beers, wines , spirits and soft drinks. Our home cooked traditional p
A pub that is used by locals and visitors alike is usually good and the Carpenters Arms is no exception. There is a really nice friendly atmosphere. The beer is good. The food is good , well priced and very popular. Biscuits for the dog too. A good find Our priority is to look after our locals. In the dark cold months they keep us busy. Visitors are a bonus for us and we treat them with the same kindness and respect we give our locals. Thank you for 5 stars

Getting lunch for 8 at 14.30 on a Sunday is a challenge and the friendly Silent Whistle husband and wife team saved the day for us. Great service, choice of meals, small children welcome, low prices great quality. Highly recommended. We'll be making the effort to return again, a hidden gem. We ate freshly made Pizza's, Burgers, and Spagetti Bolognese

an unexpected find with good food. Has accomodation and is within a few hundred yards of Buckfast Abbey, lying alongside the river.
Our third visit to Abbey Inn (from the states). Really lovely inn on the river. Super relaxing and great location for touring around Dartmoor. The food is also pretty good although on Sundays, a very limited menu. If you like a full english, the breakfast is huge! The rooms are basic but they are upgrading the property as they go. It's worth a stay if you want a lovely retreat to eat, drink, sleep to the sound of the river.

A friendly pub serving traditional food and well kept real ales. Dog, children, cyclist and walker friendly, with outside patio and garden area and now a NEW childrens play area. Fantastic views of Haytor on Dartmoor from the bar and newly refurbished bar
I cannot remember the last time I ate somewhere that dished up huge portions like this. Food is amazing, as were the staff. Will definitely be going back.

Delightful country pub dedicated to serving quality, locally sourced food and local real ales
Our second visit today with family for Sunday Roast. I have the homemade Steak and Ale Pie very delicious. My son & husband had the Roast Chicken but it was not so good. My son was dissapointed that Gammon was not on the menu as a choice of meat.We all had desserts afterwards and were not dissapointed. The chocolate sponge & chocolate custard again was delicious. The younger family members majority had icecream with marshmallows & they certainly tucked into them as soon as they came out.We weren't asked if everything was ok with our meals until we came to pay, but still left a tip.Would still recommend. Staff were welcoming and friendly.

The Hound of the Baskervilles invites you and your family to come and experience a completely unique literary experience of Dartmoor history. Sink your teeth into one of our infamous Baskerville Burgers or just enjoy our holmesy décor with a pot of Sherlo
Had an evening meal here. Fairly limited menu but plenty of choice for veggie - I had nice chickpea curry. Meat eater had very good game pie. Place itself is interesting, food is obviously freshly prepared, staff are friendly and service is good. Very reasonable prices, good range of beers and wines - what more could you want! Desserts looked interesting but we just couldn't manage one.

We were staying in a nearby hotel and were out for a walk with the dog. We stopped in here for a drink. There is a restaurant and bar both of which looked nice and inviting. If we were here for longer we would definitely give the food a try. As it was we had some drinks and had a pleasant time sitting in the beer garden across the road. A nice girl came out and gave the dog a treat but didnât seem interested in enforcing their stated âdogs on leadsâ policy. There were a couple of wee yappie mongrels running loose much to everyoneâ annoyance but no one seemed to care. The drinks were on the pricey side which might explain why it was quiet on an otherwise busy with people, warm, sunny Saturday afternoon. Thanks for the review. Glad you stopped by and were able to enjoy our lovely garden on what has lately been a rare sunny afternoon. We do ask for dogs to be kept on leads in the garden and our drinks are very fairly priced we believe for location & quality. We hope you will stop by again if you are in the area.
