The Yew Tree Inn is a genuinely traditional English country pub which has been run by the same family for over half a century. True to it's purpose the pub welcomes visitors to enjoy good quality ales and spirits along with wholesome home cooked food (no
Iâm trying to think of positives for this pub: it is obviously old and full of antiques and memorabilia, but sitting there looking around, it felt dusty and unclean. The walls are or appear to be filthy, there are holes in the wall where plasterâs dropped off and just generally an unwelcoming atmosphere. We had a meal, but the menu is very limited and two items were not available anyway making it even more limited. The pies were, Iâm sorry to say disgraceful. If Iâd have bought mine from a shop in the high street, Iâd have taken it back. As it was, I left it and so did another member of my family. They were microwaved beyond being edible almost, served with a tiny amount of mushy peas and an ok amount of mash. It was the worst meal weâve ever had in a pub and we eat in lots of pubs, not expecting restaurant quality, but pubs have to be serving good food these days. We would recommend the pub to have a look around, but thatâs it. Itâs certainly not worth driving a long way to get there as Iâve heard some people do. Iâve read the reviews about Alan and the management responses. Alan, on this occasion was not grumpy; not welcoming either but ok. My dad spoke about how he used to be a regular in his young days and how he knew Alanâs mother, but he just replied I canât remember you, I see millions of people a year. Bless him, I understand (to a point) the managementâs predicament but if my dad was being detrimental to our business, however long heâd been there and even if he owned the place, heâd be kindly and sympathetically âemployedâ elsewhere. Hello Spook19,I am very sorry your experience was so dreadful. Some people get the the Yew Tree Inn and some people don't, part of it's charm is that it hasn't been decorated or altered in over 50 years. It may appear dusty and dirty, I can assure you it isn't, we have cleaners in everyday. The walls are stained from over half a century of cigarette smoke and the likes. I believe some pubs thrive on constant revamps and regular trips to Ikea, it's not our thing.Ah now then the pies, I am not disputing what you say, you are entitled to your opinion albeit not shared with many customers. You are entitled to your say, however looking at what you said - 'If I'd [you] have bought mine from a shop in the high street, Iâd have taken it back' I have just measured the furthest distance from any part of the eating area to the bar, 7 meters. So you would head back off down the high street to take it back but you couldn't give us the grace of taking seven paces to the bar to tell us there was an issue with the food so we could have addressed it at the time? No of course you couldn't, far better saying nothing and giving yourself a great opportunity to slam a little pub in the middle of nowhere trying to make a living in difficult times, thank you very much, you're an absolute star!Alan was born into the pub trade, he may not be the epitome of a Weatherspoons' manager but he has given more to the trade than any other person in the business, he makes this pub what it is, some people stupidly have expectations beyond the capacity of of a family run business, I would rather turn away trade than take Alan's reason for living away. Please next time you want to take cheap shots at a small family run business, think of the damage you cause by your comment, better still stick to Weatherspoons!Dan

We booked to go for a meal after visiting Alton Towers....It was quite early 6pm as we had two small nieces with us.The meals were ordered and our food was inedible the starters of Camembert was over cooked with no filling inside, the tomato soup tasted liked curry. The mains were bought to my nieces and they were tasteless with thick stodgy gravy and charged too much. My scampi was burnt to a crisp the chips were wedges with skin on over cooked,my sister had the seafood platter which was also burnt and dry.We travelled over 150 miles to eat rubbish the gravy was gross, it was notcheap over £100 +I would never recommend this place ever............

Fabulous couldn't fault a thing. Lovely chilled out atmosphere, sat in the beautifully kept garden with a wine. Very well mannered n sociable waitress came and took our order. Ate inside spotlessly clean as always. Burgers arrived couldn't have been better best I've had for a long time. A really top night for a cheeky date night. Would highly recommend.

Saturday lunch with friends, and someone had recommended the Duncombe Arms. What a find. A lovely building, beautifully decorated. The staff were welcoming and efficient. The food was lovely. We mixed between brunch menu and lunch menu, resulting in odd combinations, but that didnât matter. Delicious. Highly recommended.

We're a well established 4 generation family run restaurant and pub, who are passionate about serving good beer with tasty food. Our portions are generous but most importantly full of flavour.
Ate here as a couple after a long day at Alton towers. Seems to be a lovely, atmospheric pub, but unfortunately let down by the extremely slow service! Hubby and I ordered burgers, which were pleasant, but they took nearly 40 minutes! There was only one other couple in the dining area when we arrived (another couple entered and were seated just before our food arrived). The waitress, although pleasant, was on her phone in the corner for most of the time, and looked thoroughly bored. Food was ok, but arrived on a "trendy"? stainless steel dustbin lid (?!) which actually made it very difficult to use the cutlery supplied with it, as the lip of the "plate" (lid) was very high. All in all, an ok meal but we wouldn't go back, not least for the delay in the service.

Loved this little place on our way back from Alton towers & wished we had our dinner there the day before rather than stay at the hotel at Alton towers at the secret garden restaurant.

A 1700 built coaching inn, situated on the high street in Alton, Staffordshire. We specialise in stone baked pizza's, steaks, craft beers and live music. Our recently refurbished restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere with a cosy log burner and comfy seat
Needed a break from the food at Alton Towers and read the reviews, decided to ignore the negativity and very glad I did too!Food was fantastic, service attentive (even though we were in the upstairs room), and the atmosphere was really positive from all the staff. If you are staying at Alton Towers and need a break from chips, chips and more chips then I cannot recommend the Bulls Head highly enough. And if you like chips, well they do them too!

Lovely little pub, serving a decent range of real ales and wines. Really warm welcome when we turned up, and the landlord did everything he could to find us a table for food on a very busy evening.Food is great, and itâs unusual to have a Thai restaurant attached to a pub. Beautifully cooked and served, and weâll certainly be back again based on this first visit.

The Yeaveley Arms stands proud in the centre of the village of Yeaveley opposite the village church. Taken over by three local guys in August 2017 who aimed to bring the pub back to life after it being closed and left dormant for four years! Yeaveley Arms
This was our first time here. I have to say on a rainy day itâs a terrible journey to get here ,but thatâs no fault of the pub We were seated very quickly drinks order taken. We settled for the traditional Sunday Lunch. Although the place was not full we had to wait 40 minutes for our food to arrive. Now thereâs waiting and thereâs waiting ,I do feel this was a bit extreme, five minutes before the food arrived the waitress told us our food was on the wayThe meal was very good the beef tender the veg still had a bite. All in all a very pleasant atmosphere ,friendly staff just donât be in a hurry . Yes we would call again
