We couldn’t have liked our stay at Silent Bungalow more. On arrival we were treated to tea on our room’s large terrace, then in the evening had the tastiest meal we’ve had Sri Lanka(we’ve been here 3 months) - all the food is amazing! The room is very basic but airy, comfortable and spotlessly clean and the terrace is a delight to relax on. We arranged a 4 hour safari which was very straightforward and our driver was the owners’ son. He was very friendly, knowledgable and amazing at spotting animals. All in all it was a relaxing experience with a huge amount of animals seen. When we returned we were provided with an enormous breakfast. The owners were both lovely people - incredibly helpful and friendly. I cannot recommend Silent Bungalow highly enough.

Focus on the service and relax into this beautiful place. Insist they serve you local food, amazing! It is important to say that this place is under new management and the current owners are committed to Amal, the on-site manager, was amazing. He went above and beyond to be sure all of our needs were met. This began by him meeting us in 'town' and bringing us along the reservoir to the property. Amali greeted us with hand towels to refresh ourselves from our long scooter travel and a cool drink. Lunch awaited us and our room was cool and welcoming. Super lucky two of the owners were there working on various bits of improvement and they shared their time and knowledge with us right away. This went from trip planning to what to eat - in fact we had for dinner the spectacular local meal they were having for lunch! Kindly they arranged a safari for us the next day - and it was wonderful. Our guide was super sharp eyed and we saw nearly 30 birds and animals including 2 elephants less than 1 month old. We were the only guests and our every wish was granted concerning food and all comforts possible, including excellent laundry service and allowing us to keep our drinks super cool in the freezer. While there are some physical plant issues to be addressed, and general they are getting the place back into shape - the grounds are beautiful, there is a buddhist worship area in walking distance (highly suggest a visit in the evening, colorful and lively), and the service team are some of the best I have encountered in my travels. Thank you to Amal and his team!

Walawa Blue Sapphire Holiday Resort which is located in Udawalawe is one of the most attractive destinations in Sri Lanka for both local and foreign tourists. It is about 5 km away from the Udawalawe National Park and about 2 km away from the Elephant Orphanage.
We spent 2 nights here in a large, clean air con family room with fridge and kettle and gorgeous Verandah overlooking all the lush trees. The kids loved the swing and animal life and it was a great choice for accessing the national park for an early safari (with breakfast pack supplied by the family) and then relaxing in the homestay afterwards which is like a national park itself with the animal and bird life. The family are working really hard to make the business a success and have gained their registration as an official homestay which they are very proud of (see photos). They truly cannot do enough for their guests. I wish more people would support the local community and stay in the area for their safari and experience such lovely hospitality.

The elephant transit house is within walking distance (20 minutes) and the familiy will also organize a jeep for the safari in udawalawe with pick-up and drop-off at the homestay! Highly recommended!

This accommodation is very good value for money. It has a nice garden and you'll get a room with en-suite bath room(warm shower) for only 7 usd. The host is very sweet and she can cook you a nice dinner if you want. She only speaks some basic English, but for us this was no problem. Only remark I want to make is that it is better to not book a safari with them. Her brother wanted to charge us 7000 LKR. We decided to stick with one of the random jeeps (found in the village) for 4000 LKR.

The guesthouse is situated 2 min walk from "town", but it really doesn't matter, as the town is nothing more than a lot of dust, a few cows, and some local shops. There are no cafes or restaurants. You will eat at your guesthouse wether you like it or not. The only good thing about being close to town, was that we could organise a tuktuk to take us out of there the next day. The guesthouse itself is quite cosy. What you'd expect in the middle of nowhere. Semi-clean, but small and dark rooms. Our room had a mossie net and hot water, but the room next to us had neither. There is only enough outdoor furniture for one room, so you have to share. They say they have daily maid service, but like everywhere else in SR, they just tick away at will at the facilities on booking/agoda. We had to ask them to clean our room. The lunch and dinner was good, but way to expensive! The breakfast was poor and there were ants crawling all over! The lady who runs it, speaks no English, so it's difficult to communicate. She just smiles at everything. The only thing she had learned in English, was to demand good reviews, which she did only after a few hours. Upon check-out, we realised they had over charged for the room, as well as charged for breakfast, even though it was included in the room rate. All in all a good stay, but not amazing.

After a long trip in Dambulla, Sigiriya, Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ella, my favourite place to stay is the Coconut garden House. The Owners are really friendly and caring. They booked a Safari for us and the price are really low. They are starting the guest house activity and they do it really good. The bedrooms are clean and fully equipped. There is a great wireless and food is good too. For 10$ what else ??? Help them to get what they diserves...

Be extremely careful of the safari they offer. The driver and the guide seem to be quite amateur. They made really bad decisions so that my friends and I were stuck in the muds for 2 HOURS!! From 10am to 12pm. For the first hour they even refused to call someone to help. We were just standing in the middle of nowhere for 2 hours at more than 30 degrees. When we finally got out of the mud, they even took a wrong road to get out of the park. I just can’t believe it. The whole trip was really a MESS. We didn’t see much of the animal really. There are hundreds of much better options than this. People usually book the safari directly with the hotel, so you’d better not stay here as well.
