That's the place to go.After having some difficulties with the side dishes at first, the have improved so much. As far as the steaks are concerned - from day one top quality. It was my 4th visit today and I was impressed. Steak (NZ rib eye) cooked to perfection, sauce tasty and the side veggies (I am a little short for my size) well prepared and hot.9 out of 10 !! (If they start serving food on preheated plates I shall give 10 points)As long as they keep it up - I shall have many more wonderful meals there.A little word about the service: Excellent !

A very pleasant little bar with an informal ambience. NJoy, although tucked a bit away from central Ubon, is well known by the local expat community (and Thai spouses!) for it's food, both western and Thai- & more recently, Indian curry. For Sunday roast, it is "The" game in town- but do bring an appetite. Schnitzel, chicken burger, good steak, home made(!) spring rolls, and of course Thai- quite a varied menu, cooked by competent staff.NJoy has the atmosphere of a friendly locals bar, most everybody seems to know everybody- but new faces are always made welcome. It is also one of the few expat bars in town open during the day, from 11am onwards. Rattana is a convivial host, well travelled and with good English. A slice of expat life in 'out of the way' Ubon.

Having lived in Ubon for 5 years now, we have tried many, many restaurants. This is clearly the best in quality, ambience AND value. It is much cheaper than the higher rated restaurants on this list while keeping great quality. My favourite dishes are the risottos and pizzas. Next time I'm trying the cheesecake (to see if they can make genuine cheesecake, which is very hard to find in Thailand). To add to the good points above, I always feel like I'm eating in someone's home - given its homely feel inside. The only issue I have is that they accept only cash (not credit card), but this is not a big deal as it is cheaper than the other restaurants anyway.

Fine dining
The Home is an enormous restaurant. The menu is extensive and runs to many pages, I really don't know why! There are far too many staff simply hanging around waiting for something to do. The food is average.

Cakes, pies, bread, western food, Mexican food, Thai food and more. A superb eatery with excellent service and air-conditioned comfort. And obviously so popular with the local ex-pats.Australian I had a chunky beef pie, which was excellent with (cubed!) wedges which were average, Why not leave the wedges whole? Maybe so the Thais can eat them with a fork and spoon or maybe to cook faster? but no no then they are not wedges but potato cubes But the great pie meant I forgave the culinary faux pasMy Thai wife had combination seafood and chicken tom yum which she said was very good.I also bought a yummy almond croissant to take away. I was tempted to buy a pack of German sausages to take away but sadly keeping them cool while travelling would be a problem.Chatted to an American who regularly comes here from out of town to have nachos and schnitzel He loves the place.I see some comments on the service, I found it friendly, attentive and intelligent. Such as "Do you want ice in your beef glass?" Of course no. Only Thais do that.I'll be backThank you for your nice and detailed review. The potato wedges / cube "mistake" will be fixed on the next menu update. You are correct with your assumption, it was so they cook a bit quicker. We can do French Fries / Chips as a substitute upon request...maybe that'll make your next meal from excellent to perfect :)Thank you again and looking forward to meeting you next time.Regards,Julian
