The typical house furnishing is in the heart of the oasis. It is in a small village of Douz. the traditional and anciently decorated home consists of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and kitchen plus two Bedouin tents are at your disposal and a large garden made with the end of desert sand. the house is next to my big family. There are 2.2 km from the city center, 200 meters from the sand dunes.
SAHARANSKY Luxury Camp is a campsite located in the area of Tembaine at the Jebil National Park in the south of Douz. Luxurious beds, soft pillows, ensuites, and gastronomic food extravaganzas.

This camping site is about a 45-minute drive from the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, surrounded by sand dunes in the middle of the desert! The tents are clean and sparse and lit. The camp has clean showers and clean sanitation facilities. The food is good, cooked locally, as is the bread that is cooked in the sand. We were there in August and the temperature was tolerable, surprisingly. There weren't many people there so the camp was quiet. I am not sure it would be so peaceful when it is operating at full capacity with 200 people there. It was a marvelous experience which I will certainly repeat.

I stayed with my campervan at the Residence Camping El Kahena in December 2020. It's a lovely campsite with view on the sea. You wake up to the gorgeous sunshine and can see the stars at night. It's so peaceful and you can go for a walk next to the water. Mr. Ismael is an amazing host and he is extremely hospitable. You will learn all about Tunisia from this wonderful man. His wife Sonia is a wonderful wonderful cook. You must try their lovely couscous with squid. Excellent well-maintained clean facilities, water, electricity, toilets and showers. You can have a hot shower in the guest house with its beautiful rooms. I highly recommend staying here.

Vos yeux vont voir des choses inimaginables et exceptionnelles, l’accueil et le repas au top, les tentes très confortables. Le plus fabuleux, admirer le coucher du soleil en prenant l’apéro après avoir fait une ballade en ? dans les dunes ?

A bumpy thrill of a ride into the desert on the Sahara train, ending at a wonderful, dimly lit fortress. As soon as you're within the 'Romancing the Stone' style camp, whip your footwear off to be instantly relaxed by the envigorating feel of the silky sand between your toes... sand like no other! Eat like a Sheikh with some delicious Tunisian cuisine, drink mouth-watering Tunisian beer 'Celtic' and take the wooden stairs to the stars. Once on the viewing platform, lay back in the still of the night, with your hair and bare feet in the sand and gaze in awe at the spectacular stars up above - a starry night like no other and a sky that will stay with you forever! (Shooting stars in abundance!!) And if you're a little hot with the scorching desert heat and the overwhelming views of Earth's ceiling, go for a late night float in the dip pool. The tents are fab, with comfy mattresses on pallets and the sound of distant bugs to lull you to sleep. Overall... absolutely amazing!!!

Just 60 minutes northeast of Tunis, a deserted ranch house has been transformed into a tasteful, tranquil guest ranch. The 207-acre farm is a refuge for both humans and animals, from horses to olive trees. A small white mosque sits atop a slight ridge overlooking the property, with the mountain rising in the background. The original stables, FARM, and the cows buildings have been completely renovated with attention to detail, and several new rooms are filled with classic Phoenician touches. To honor the privacy of our guests, drop-in visits are not allowed, but tour groups and individuals may visit for lunch and a horseback or bike ride, with advance reservations. The farm is a peaceful, completely secluded hideaway with accommodations that make you feel like you're staying in a luxurious private home. The 11 rooms have air-conditioning and heaters, sea view and bathrooms, individual gardens and couches in the living rooms, and dressers in the bedrooms. Each room has a large porch, where turtles tend to roost in the window boxes among blooming flowers. The chef prepares superb regional Mediterranean cuisine with breads baked daily in a wood-burning beehive oven. Guests are welcome to ride the horses or the bikes up the mountain foothills and into the sea through the pine forest that still lack automobiles and electricity. There's a pool and plenty of space to roam in complete solitude.
It's a very lovely place, and I really loved my stay there, so I really committed to go there once or even more ? uhm the staff is really nice and lovely, and the sunsets at night are wonderful ? lv

The Magic Lodge bivouac encampment "near Douz" is actually on the edge of a small village called Sabria (Essabria). Booked on line with Promovacances, subsidiary of Karavel/Opodo, Royal Tours was the final operator. They were efficient, competent and friendly. We travelled in March 2007 at a bargain basement price, so that must be taken into context. There were only 11 of us, 2 drivers and a guide, hence we were able to make the journey in 2 4X4s. It was a more intimate way of travel than a tour bus. In fact, we were able to visit places that tour buses couldn't and remarked the sites where tour buses were parked and where they sought restauration. The "lodge" is a former colonial military outpost, Fort Sabria, in half ruin but we found it to be very rustic and charming. It is not, however, for the discerning, demanding or faint of heart. It is very rudimentary. The tents are of synthetic canvas, the beds firm but planted right in the sand. There are more than ample wool blankets and there are lights but that's about it. We three women weren't able to figure out how properly to close the door flaps, hence, we awoke with a fine layer of sand over all of us and everything! The staff was extremely warm and welcoming, serving our group an aperitif before dinner in what appeared to be their living quarters (TV room). Dinner was a very simple meal of couscous(more bone than meat!) served in a surprisingly charming dining hall in the fort. You could buy a bottle of wine, around 10 DT if I remember correctly--have cash. There is running water! And there are showers (no experience there, took a pass!) and there are toilets but, one would have to approach this as an adventure with a great deal of open mindedness and tolerance and a sense of adventure in order to fully enjoy and appreciate the experience. This place must have been called "Magic Lodge" because of the aura at sunrise; it truly was magic. So, it more than made up for the slightly lack lustre petit dejeuner. We all 11 enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Speaking French is a definite asset as English was not spoken. But the whole experience, ambiance and scenery spoke volumes. I couldn't imagine spending a week out there but I certainly wouldn't have traded that evening and sunrise for anything. Bon Voyage.
