Visiting Tumut and took my mother out for lunch. We had heard "The Ori" was the place to go in Tumut for good food and we weren't disappointed. Great atmosphere, friendly girls serving, loads of choice on the menu. It was a beautiful day so...MoreThanks Tastetest, yesterday was a beautiful day to be sitting on the deck. Our seniors menu is really popular with people who don't want a big meal. Thanks again Ellen

The Royal Hotel Bistro prides itself on offering a variety of meals all freshly made on premise. We crumb our schnitzel's and stuff our Kiev's and make our own aioli and tartare. We have pub classic's, a varied range of pasta's and specials that are of a quality you won't find elsewhere in town. We cater for kids and vegetarians as well as have a range of gluten free meals. We are open for lunch 7 days a week.
The badinage at the bar was quite entertaining, locals having a good time. The meals were generally okay but my lamb shank was tough and stringy - it's supposed to be slow cooked to be very tender. Silver Dory in butter sauce was a better choice picked by one of our group. Chicken pasta dish was okay as well.
This is a typical country pub so the wine selection is quite ordinary and the beers are limited but okay.
It was warm and comfortable enough on plain tables. The dining room was quite full suggesting this is quite popular with local people as we were there on a Thursday evening in late winter.
Not sure we'd actually want to be there for their Tuesday "Parmageddon" nights but the poster advertising it gave us a chuckle.

We are a sixty seat restaurant in the heart of town serving Australian meals at a good price. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service
I'm struggling to find anything positive to say about our Dinner visit. I'm sorry. OK, the waitress was very pleasant...
The natural Oysters were served at room temperature and looked like they had been left out standing for quite a while. The Kilpatrick were fine...
The steak ordered medium rare came out well done and was like boot leather.
The Wine Jus was sour, a clear indication that the Chef does not taste the dishes enough
The vegetables were a mush....cooked to death.
I think if you are going to charge 'restaurant' prices, guests have an expectation that the dishes will be professionally cooked.
Oh, on a positive note, the salt and pepper Calamari were quite good.
I review a lot of restaurants here in Australia and Overseas and very rarely give a bad review. I was inclined not to write this one. But I think in this case an 'honest' review was required. It is meant in a constructive manner. Although when I remarked about the steak being overcooked our waitress said nothing and became decidedly hostile.........
The lesson here is that even negative feedback is a chance to 'react' in a suitable 'professional' manner and learn from the experience.
Maybe we just visited on a bad night.......I hope so.

Recommended to come here by my motel I wasn't disappointed. Happy helpful young lady in the restaurant section (which was too cool for my liking) and some nice cold beer.
Meal of choice was the beef & reef with mash & veg.
Cooked well, a nice tender piece of meat. Not a huge piece of meat but big enough to satisfy. The sauce was great and tasty.
4 prawns included which is standard for pub meals. The mash was reasonable (but a little bit lumpy).
Decent enough meal, nothing great nothing bad.

We dined here on a night in Tumut. The service was prompt but not particularly welcoming. The food was well presented and quite tasty. Both beef and pork dishes were our selection. It serves alcohol but the choices are somewhat limited. Would look elsewhere if dining in Tumut.

Heart of India has undergone a change of ownership but continues to serve excellent food. We shared Rogan Josh, Sweet Chicken, Mixed Vegetable Korma and Palak Paneer, all of which were very good. Basmati rice with cumin seeds was also a very pleasant compliment to our meal. It's great to find such good restaurants in country towns.

On a very cold day, we decided to do a Friday luncheon as a team building opportunity.
Service was alright, could improve on customer interactions, however not hard to finalise our orders.
Our meals arrived in good time, very aromatic and presentation was very good.
I had a steamed red curry seafood dish. It was excellent, I'd put it in the top 5 Thai dishes I've had. Great balance of spice, heat, sweetness and umami.
Worth the price, very satisfied with this eatery.

We stopped here for morning tea and it was packed!! The display of food items was awesome. All freshly made and all looked appetising. We also took lunch items away with us and they were fresh and yummy. I would definitely recommend this bakery if you are driving throughTumut.

Dropped in for a takeaway latte, got a cappuccino. Milk too hot and no texture. That was forgivable. What stood out was mainly the feeling of not being welcome there. No one really even acknowledged me. Stood there for a few minutes while staff just talked and fluffed around with friends who dropped in. Every customer should feel like they are welcome and greeted with a big smile and "how are you today?". This was my first visit and I won't rush back. The place just felt a little grubby too. Dirty tables, dirty glass, unstocked fridges, kids drawing on walls, years old magazines. They also show the nice blue brand name coffee cups upfront, and then give you a cheap no name plain one for your coffee. Left feeling annoyed.
