Check in was at 1pm. We arrived 2:40pm and one of the rooms wasnt ready. The lady at the front desk naturally said we had to wait for the room as if this was normal. We booked the superior rooms. We got in and the room was disgusting. Walls were all marked, scratched and dented. A shelf grounded to the wall was broken, hanging almost falling down. Bed cover looks as if it is never cleaned. The place is a mess. Attention is poor. Price is too high for this filthy hotel. Stay somewhere else.

What a lovely break from visiting Montevideo's hustle and bustle ! The food was amazing cooked by Maria and with portions too large even for a hard working Gaucho ! The house manager Nathalia spoke great English and was most accommodating. The gauchos , Leonardo and Arnaldo were our favorites! Great riding trips always a different route and times requested were kindly arranged. The estancia is home to cows, sheep, emus, lizards, pigs, a fawn, of course the horses. The pool was most welcome on the 90 degree afternoons. Loved the experience here. We stayed in the main house in the 2 first floor bedrooms rooms which were immense and en suite. Immaculate too. The front porch was the spot for cocktails at the end of the day. It was quite serene as we were the only 2 people there. Kudos to Maria and Natalia for trying to keep the ice supply up. They learned that Americans can go through a lot of ice; especially on hot days !

I've been staying here every couple of years since the Maxim first opened. I always ask for a room at the rear of the hotel to avoid the traffic noise as the windows are not double glazed. Doors do not have rubber seals and the hallways are tiled. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and room 210 also had a single bed in the room. During my 2 night stay it was very quiet as it was near the end of the hallway and I don't think that there were many other guests. The block out curtains and the reverse cycle aircon worked well. Many English TV channels. Nice white fluffy towels but the hot water took ages to arrive on my first night. My bathroom had a bidet. No kettle in the room but there is a minbar. Breakfast was included in my room rate but is very average- basic pot coffee, ham, cheese, toast and jams. I did like the- partly fresh- fruit salad, though.

Have just spent a weekend at Hotel de campo and had an amazing time. It is a perfect place to get a feel for the Uruguayan countryside and is only 2 hours from Montevideo. I spent the weekend with my partner staying in one of the hotels double rooms. The room was simple but very clean and comfortable. We were on the 3rd floor and had a wonderful view over the countryside. Great for sunrise photos. There was air conditioning in our room but we preferred to sleep with the window open as there was a mosquito screen. We ate all our meals at the hotel and they were all excellent. Good countryside food. The breakfast was particularly good. Better than most expensive hotels I've stayed in. The home backed bread and cookies were a treat. The hotel was busy but we hardly noticed as the grounds are so huge. They have everything; a huge pool, HORSE RIDING, archery and shooting range, volley ball court, football field, kids play area, hammocks to relax in, animals for the kids. We were even lucky enough to have a glass of wine around the campfire one night. We didn't have any complaints at all. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place. Especially for people wanting to get a taste of the real Uruguay.
