This cafe was recommended by our hotel for the curry rice, and it lived up to our expectations. It is a small cafe and nothing fancy. But the curry rice was very tasty, the service was fast and prices were very reasonable. Apparently you can have coffee in the morning (it is open at 8:00), and shaved ice as well. It closes at 19:00, so you will need to go early enough for dinner.

Drive-in restaurant Sakyu Kaikan is a big and the most useful drive-in for the sightseeing of the national park, Sakyu Kaikan. The drive-in has a store for specialties of Tottori and a restaurant with tatami room for local cuisine, and you can enjoy food and shopping as a spot for the break time. Welcome to the drive-in with the free parking for 30 buses and 150 cars. We look forward to seeing you!!
I stopped by Tottori Sand Dunes for a view and went for lunch here. The restaurant works in a shokudo style; pay for your meal at the entrance and take a seat, staff will ask for your receipt and prepare your meal.
Since crab and prawns are the local treats I ordered the kaisendon, 1800 yen for a decent sized bowl with assorted marine products and rice. Considering the large room and probably a high throughput of customers throughout the day, the taste was good. Tip: don't pour in all the soysauce as this might make the dish too salty to your taste.
Besides the kaisendon there are some non fish dishes too.

This was one of the highlights of our visit to Tottori. Takumi restaurant (たくみ割烹店) is in a historic building in the town and emphasizes seasonal and local produce, including Tottori beef. There is no English menu but the staff speak some English, showed us photos of the lunch sets, and were extremely helpful and attentive, including dealing with some menu substitutions to accommodate different dietary restrictions. Lunch sets were in the range of $15 - 20 USD, shabu shabu started from about $40 USD depending on the amount and grade of beef selected. These are hearty meals! (see below) I didn't try the beef, but enjoyed my fish set and the overall experience.
The main sections of the menu are sashimi (eg seasonal sashimi assortment), beef sets, fish sets, seasonal vegetable side dishes, and alcohol (again, including local sake). The lunch set included pickled vegetables, a side dish of seasonal vegetables, miso soup, rice, the main course (eg grilled fish or beef over rice), at least one other small tasting item (eg a taste of a local squid specialty dish), and slices of pear for dessert. The dinner set included all this and at least one or two more side dishes (in my case, sashimi and a piece of grilled fish) - you will not go hungry!
There are tables downstairs and tatami rooms upstairs.

A family member took us here while we were visiting him in Tottori. So glad he did. Some of the freshest and best value sushi you can imagine. Very easy to handle for English speakers as well as the plates relate to yen amounts that are clearly labeled. Plus, you can always point to the menu and order whatever you fancy that isn't coming by on the conveyor. If you like authentic, fresh sushi, this place is a no-brainer. Be willing to wait up to an hour at dinner time for a place, though.

The 7 different kinds of sashimi (fresh fish) set is good and presentable. But the fish soup pot is just good for looking than taste. As the soup is cooked on table, while it boiled I want to make the fire smaller but instead I turn it off. The staff comes at once for help while I press the bell. They are quite helpful (they give me English menu once they find I can't read the Japanese one).
The restaurant is a chained one so foods are average (not bad and no surprised).

We ordered two seafood don and each of them had at least 10 types of seafood. They were all very fresh and seasonal! and they offered a seasonal oyster as well called "夏輝" (means shinning in summer), which was only available during June to August. The oyster was super yummy and rich!
