Perched on the bluffs overlooking the mighty Mississippi, Quincy's landmark architecture, dogwood-lined streets and rolling green parks tell of a long and tiered history. Its location on the border of Missouri made it an ideal station point for the Underground Railroad, once in the aid of Mormons and later helping African Americans flee the slave states. Now the city's history is evident in its historic districts, architecture, museums, parks and landmarks.

Am a vet myself, and visit the home every vets day to visit my uncle and offer thanks to the other veterans here. First time I hit the museum, and it was worth the time. From ancient Americans to Afghanistan the Iraq, there are artifacts and descriptions from every conflict, with local (Quincy) tie ins to veterans, including some who fed the tree of Liberty. Very emotional.

This is a neat home to see if in the area. Self guided tours. My wife and I walked through the home in about 15-20 minutes. No one was working there when we got there a different person had stopped to get something and let us in. Would have been nice to hear something about the home and it's history. I wouldn't make a special trip to see it but if in the area it's worth a quick stop.

Spent a rainy afternoon (5/3/17) taking the guided tour of this fabulous 1890-1891 Richardsonian-Romanesque mansion in Quincy, IL, i.e., the Newcomb-Stillwell House. A very sweet young lady gave a well-researched guided tour of the impeccably decorated and designed main floor. Indeed, the 1st floor was so outstanding, it more than made up for the disappointing upper floors, which have been inexplicably converted into a hodgepodge of natural history, war, radio, etc., museum exhibits unrelated (and frankly very distracting and damaging) to the mansion as a whole. This historic mansion could be so much better if the exhibits on the 2nd and 3rd floors were moved elsewhere, and the upper floors restored! Irrespective of the bastardization of the upper floors, the 1st floor of this Mansion is a MUST SEE if visiting Quincy, Il. Well worth the $8.00 admission fee.

This is old-style shoe repair shop that repairs and mends shoes, leather, belts, zippers, you name it. Really expert craftsmen. Also wide selection of western boots, steel toed work shoes, belts, etc. I've been going here for over 20 years, and they've fixed everything from belts to luggage zippers, to shoes and boots for me. Just the smell inside takes me back to going to the show repair shop with my dad when I was a little kid. Old time high quality hand workmanship here.

We recently visited this modern, large, comfortable community theatre that had the talent and atmosphere of a big city. The theatre is newer with plenty of comfortable seats and every one had a good view of the stage. We saw Mary Poppins here and it was fabulous. The actors were talented, the sets were done with such detail and the costumes were so bright and fun. It was a real joy and the time just flew by. They offer shows every few months and other things at this venue. This is a real treasure for this community and folks come from a good distance to attend. Tip - all shows were sold out so we put our name on a waiting list and had to come back an hour before the show started. As people cancel and give up their tickets, those on the waiting list get them. We were lucky enough to see the show that night. If you live or are close to this area you should check it out some time. They do serve light refreshments here also. So nice that these folks give of their time and talent for others -- real talent here on the night we visited.

Gallery Solaro has done an amazing job with restoring a portion of the former Dick Brothers Brew House. The gallery's presentation of Dicks Brewery memorabilia was top notch and so interesting. Gallery Solaro greatly enhanced the recent Oktoberfest festival. It is nice to see the restoration and preservation of a part of our city's history and Gallery Solaro is making a difference in Quincy's calf town. I look forward to future events and festivals at the gallery.
