We stopped and took pics. The sculptures are scattered throughout the park so expect to walk around a bit to take pictures if you want. We loved the truck with the catfish. There are no washrooms here but plenty of parking.

Texas Legato Winery is a family owned and operated winery located on FM 1478 southwest of Lampasas. Legato means a gathering together of family or friends. Legato is also a musical term for smooth and connected notes or performance. Please come meet us, join our family of friends, and enjoy our smooth, award-winning wines from Texas grown grapes. Relax in our tasting room or on our patio overlooking the vineyard. The support Texas Legato has received from our family and friends have helped make it a success! We thank each and every one of you!
Visiting Texas Legato your first impression will be the wonderful covered patio overlooking the vineyard and the surrounding countryside. Inside you'll meet the fun personalities that make this a favorite winery. Our favorite wine is the Family Reunion but try as many as they allow...MoreThanks so much. We love our patio and really love it when people enjoy relaxing there. This year it has been perfect patio weather. Equally glad you enjoyed your experience and our wines.

We had to stop so the teens could take a pic for Instagram. Very cute and nice to get out and stretch legs if on a road trip. There is a little lunch place there too if you need a bite to eat.

Pillar Bluff Vineyards is a short drive from 281 (take Naruna Rd thru the golf course, follow 1478 to 111 and you are there) it's next to Texas Legato. Look for the old windmill with the sign where you turn into the property. The tasting room is tucked back off the road. The winemaker is usually there pouring the wine and telling people about Texas hill country wines. His vintages include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Merlot and a port style wine and some blends. The tasting room is small, but you can sit outside on the patio, bring a picnic with and enjoy the peaceful countryside only 45min away from the Killeen-Ft Hood area!
The owner has a dog that is usually there too, and I've seen other guests bring dogs into the place. I've been drinking Pillar Bluff wine for about 8 years and my favorite is the Founders Red or the Enology 101 which has been renamed to Tyler. The Wink port style wine is very good too. Pillar Bluff is a nice place to drive out to on the weekend, not too far, but far enough from Cove, Killeen, etc to feel like you got out of town but close enough to do on a whim. They are open Friday and Saturday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

Cooper Spring Nature Park (previously named Johnson Nature Park) is comprised of 25+ acres dedicated to providing sustainable habitats for native birds and butterflies and conserving soil and water resources. From the pavilion at the entry, mowed trails guide visitors along Burleson Creek and Spring Branch as well as Cooper Spring. It is two blocks from downtown Lampasas.
Cooper Spring Nature Park, near the downtown courthouse square in Lampasas, is a City park with mown paths, a creek, and splendid wildflowers in spring and summer. The gate to the park was designed by T.J. Mabrey, an artist who used to live in Lampasas but now makes her home in Santa Fe, N.M. Newly installed rock "benches" make this a perfect place to enjoy lunch (but please put your trash in the bin near the entrance) or just to sit and contemplate the surrounding natural beauty. Over 119 different types of birds have been sighted in the park. The park is free and always open.

There's a fair number of murals in Lampasas - upwards to ten that I am currently aware of (there could be more, and probably will be in the future). I personally like the murals, they add personality and something different. Some are admittedly better than others, but I still like them all the same.

Our family had a great afternoon playing miniature golf and bowling. The golf course has some cool water features. Also, they even have “roughs” and “sand” on some of the holes which slows the ball down. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. You can order food and drinks while you bowl. We will return the next time our family meets in Lampasas for a reunion!

Housed in a former plumbing and sheet metal shop, the Lampasas County Museum has exhibits relating to natural history (taxidermies animals and birds that are found in the area), the sulfur springs (which led Lampasas to be known as the "Saratoga of the South," banking (place where the Texas Bankers Association was organized), ranching, area schools, music (small exhibit on Dale McBride), legendary bookmaker Ray Jones, and more.
