This place is literally a beautiful lush oasis in the middle of barren land. The bridge is just idyllic with beautiful lush green all around it. There is a small campground there around 10 sites, NO dogs allowed, and no amenities, which makes it perfect. It is a very small park but oh so worth it, right of the interstate and 10 miles from Douglas

Explore Wyoming's pioneer history. Admission is FREE! The purpose of the Wyoming Pioneer Memorial Museum is to collect, preserve, interpret and display historical and cultural materials related to westward expansion, to Wyoming pioneers in particular and the west in general. Come enjoy: the teepee from the movie "Dances With Wolves", historic photographs, pioneer history, WY State Fair history, Native American artifacts, one room schoolhouse, early day bar pioneer living, Dr.'s buggy, historic cabin, wagons, stock detective Tom Horn's saddle, rifles; such as once belonged to Nate Champion.
A lot of items displayed-too many in fact -but its a free entrance and probably cannot afford a curator to organize a rotation of displays. The volunteer was helpful. An audio tour would be a great addition.

As another traveler penned, I stumbled on this great railroad mini museum while "passing through". If you are a historical train (1950's) car buff, the Great Northern Pullman and the Burlington Diner cars are really cool. Got to walk through the diner kitchen/food prep area....a place I remember as a kid seeing into...but NOT being allowed in! Bucket List item CHECKED OFF! The GN Pullman car (from the Western Star) is open, upper/lower berths available for lots of pictures along with the bedroom compartments. Definitely an experiential place for a view into train travel of the past. Also, this FREE! There are other hands on cars and the attached station has a great O/O27 gauge train layout with several steamers and a Santa Fe diesel. Take the time out to visit this great exhibit.

The city of Douglas was here. When they built the railroad, people move somewhere else, and use the wood from the old houses to build the new ones.

During WWII Camp Douglas was the primary prisoner of war (POW) camp for Wyoming. Visit the last remaining building of what was once a square mile, 180-building site; where 2,000 Italian, 3,000 German POWs, and 500 army personnel were accommodated. At the time, the camp was larger than the town of Douglas. Unique highlight: Western murals painted by Italian prisoners and historic photographs.
The Douglas World War II POW Camp is an unusual historic site that provides a great history lesson. It’s too bad that so little of the sprawling camp’s physical remains have survived -- basically just the former Officers Club, a National Register of Historic Places structure that now serves as the visitor center/museum. It’s also a shame that the place is open to the public only four days a week at present (Wednesday through Saturday). The Douglas World War II POW Camp flies way under the radar and deserves more publicity. The morning we were there, no other visitors were present.
A picnic table is situated in a shaded spot next to the parking lot.

This is not how we thought of Wyoming - 3 million acres of rolling grassland! Driving through on our way to South Dakota, we enjoyed the different type of scenery than we had been seeing in other parts of the state. Lots of antelope and birds. Very little traffic, too, which was nice. Overall, a pleasant, peaceful drive.

I have stopped and played this golf course many times. The course is only 6 minutes off of I-25. It is always in good shape. I stopped last weekend to play. The course was exceptional. The best I have seen it in 30 years. If you are traveling through central Wyoming and like golf, you can't beat this deal. During the week a person can probably walk on but they take tee times. Definitely need one on weekends. The restaurant/bar is very good also.

From the outside it kind of looks like a neighborhood run down bar. And up until now is just what it may have been. I visited and met one of the owners named Jacey. She said that her and her husband Scott came up from Salt Lake I believe a couple years ago and bought the bar a couple months ago. This is a great bar to visit. It is almost like walking back into the western days. All of the wood work is amazing brought in from Chicago in 1906 and assembled piece by piece. I am excited to see the progression over the next couple years.
