Bretton Woods is an area within the town of Carroll, New Hampshire, United States, whose principal points of interest are three leisure and recreation facilities. Being virtually surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest, the vista from Bretton Woods toward Mount Washington and the Presidential Range includes no significant artificial structures other than the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the Mount Washington Hotel.

Bretton Woods is the home of New Hampshire's largest ski area, plus the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour, Bretton Woods Nordic Center, the Adventure Center, The Spa, the Golf Club (27 holes), The Lodge, The Townhomes and numerous food and beverage outlets.
This place has the best runs for my ski tastes of anywhere in the Northeast. I'm a 'senior' and this place is VERY "senior friendly." Also family friendly. While usual rating symbols of trails exist -- forget them ! I say 90% of the trails here are "intermediate" and just great runs. Lift capacity is excellent. Waiting in lines is rare midweek ( I never ski weekends.) The new gondola this season is smooth, quiet and all the way to the top. The base lodge is friendly, convenient, just a comfy good place to ski. Spectacular scenery -- ideal views of Mt Washington, Cannot be beaten in the East ! Downside = not many good eating spots nearby and limited selection of hotels.

A good friend recommended we stay. We were pleasantly surprised. The customer service was fantastic, room was beautiful, amazing breakfast in the main dining room, fantastic gym, and delicious dinner at Stickney’s (Benjamin waited on us-he was great!). I HIGHLY recommend the historical tour. Evelyn was our guide, she was so knowledgeable and entertaining. She obviously loves what she does. The tour gave me a whole new appreciation of the beautiful hotel. We fully enjoyed our stay!

One of my favorite solo sports is classic Nordic skiing. -It’s hiking but with all the downhills for free!! The issue is that most Nordic centers groom their golf courses and the expereince can get a little stale after a couple miles. Bretton Woods Nordic Ski area offers 2 golf courses, but also many hills, narrow trails, a connector to the AMC Highland Center, High Country Trails, and trails off of the back of their network, near Mount Clinton Road, that provide a feeling of deep woods, but with refined conditions and excellent signage. I will easily ski here thirty or forty days each winter!!
