Top 9 Things to do Good for Big Groups in Aarhus, Jutland

September 13, 2021 Florencio Paulino

Jutland's cultural heart, Århus is an exuberant university town with a perfectly preserved old town and a recreated historic village, Den Gamle By. The top draw is the Moesgard Museum of Prehistory, showcasing exhibits from the Stone Age to Viking days and home to the city's most famous citizen, the 2000-year-old Grauballe Man. It's a lively spot, teeming with cafes, restaurants, clubs and cinemas. Denmark's second-largest city perches on Jutland's eastern coast amid beaches and woodland.

Den Gamle By

Its a remaining of old city that is 200-300 years old. Its partly reconstructed. Its a really nice place to spend time with family and friends. Its suitable for toddler and disable people. However, people with wheelchair won't be able to climb the wooden staircase of the old buildings. At some point its similar to a open air museum. There is a bakery that sells cookies, cakes, cinnamon breads and biscuits, which are based on 17th century old recipes,I highly recommend. It took 1.5 hours for us to explore. Its 135 DKK per adult.

First time visit to AROS. Very surprised by the Popularity of this new classic Aarhus attraction. - but well deserved. The museum is big, but stretching over 10 levels there is plenty to experience. There is all kinds of art with focus on modern art - and with many different artists- and different styles we were all (including the kids) entertained, thrilled and dazzled for 4 hours. Must see’s; the installation art on the 1+2 level, FAR FOR HOME - including the famous ‘BOY’ and the extraordinary sign mark of AROS - Olafur Eliasson round rooftop circle walk. So in short - AROS is a unique experience and a ‘Must-see’ in Aarhus - also for those only moderately art interested.

Originally I wanted to see Den Gamle By. It might be a nice place but I had that kind of feeling it was a tourist trap. So I went to the botanical garden instead which turned out to be a great decision. Not only is the entrance to the greenhouse free, there are even lots of beautiful butterflies, fish and even more exotic plants of course. I probably enjoyed this place much more than I would have enjoyed the old town.

Our visit at Christmas time definitely had the wow factor. Thousands of twinkly Christmas lights to add to the winter wonderland atmosphere. This was my first visit to the park and did not disappoint. It is a mixture of fairground attractions, Christmas markets, eateries and displays. Santa was in his workshop grotto and I and my grandchildren were very impressed by his performance and ‘look’. Dotted around the beautiful wooden chalets in the market area are open fires to make you feel cosy and warm. Lots to see, do and eat.
