I visited this venue after seeing it on NHK I can say it definitely feels like it’s gone back in time. It has at least seven onsens If you stay in the hotels in the area you get a pass which can visit all 7 for free. The shops offer different things for sale but they can be quite expensive as they are handmade items. The restaurant is closed at two different times once it will close around 5 pm and the other set opens around 8 pm and closes at 11 They seem to be old time activities to do like shooting corks out of a gun to get prizes It is Worth coming here especially during night time as it is beautiful and if your hotel allows it as mine wanted, you can wear the traditional Japanese garments to walk around the streets in The train station is called Kinosaki And if you have the JR pass the trip is mostly going to be free for you via train

Kinosaki Onsen Town is famous for it’s 7 Hot Springs bath. We visited Goshono-yu, also known as the “Water of Beauty”, brings luck in love and protects you against fires. No inside photos available as photography is strictly prohibited for keeping the sanctity. Japanese onsens, or communal hot springs, adhere to ancient traditions which include bathing as we were born. It is bit awkward initially to bare it all in front of strangers but once you are in the atmosphere you let go all the shyness and feel relaxed while you engulf yourself. For Japanese, the onsen is a healing sanctuary. Highly recommended for a wonderful experience.

Izushi Castle Town

Try and find this one on your map of Japan! 45 mins on the bus from Toyooka, itself not on too many people's 'must visit' list .Bus goes along narrow road atop a wide river bank with views to each side. Then, almost out of nowhere, you arrive at this tiny castle town, Izushi. The castle area at the back of the bus station is the main focus with restaurants seling the local soba noodle dish, museums, old houses, and, of course, the small castle which obviously once was much bigger. Easily done in a day. Guess its secret lies in the fact that the railway passed it by. Glad I took the trouble to go!

This large and modern onsen next to the train station charges more (800 yen) than the other onsens in Kinosaki, and with justification. It has baths at different temperatures, sauna and plunge pool and best of all, a rooftop open air bath. The facilities are excellent.

This is a okay onsen But bear in mind there are six others and they all pretty much are the same thing Just make sure you have the onsen stamp the book and stamp your booklet at the end of each onsen You can then take it back to your hotel for a gift will do what I did and just keep the whole booklet to myself Please make sure you know the rules which should be in your hotel but generally you’ve got to clean yourself before you enter the pool itself which is gonna be very hot Please don’t be that foreigner that makes a nuisance of yourself and embarrasses the rest of us by behaving in a way which is not proper so therefore please learn the etiquette, it’s not hard and there are instructions all over the place including in the venue itself in English
