Sudbury is a historic market town in Suffolk, one of the largest counties of England in East Anglia. Sudbury itself is worth exploring on foot, a small family friendly town with a shopping area (mostly full of chain shops but with a few great local shops), and a few good bars and restaurants. Fans of art history will be pleased to discover the house of Thomas Gainsborough on the appropriately named Gainsborough Street at the bottom of Market Hill, and book lovers may be amused by the plaque at St Peter's Church which acknowledges the fact that the town was referenced in Dodie Smith's classic 101 Dalmations.

Had the utmost pleasure going into Rafi's and ordering some delicious spice mixes for a present for close friends. I was able to check about allergens with complete ease, and nothing was too much trouble. Absolutely fantastic service, great value, and will definitely be back again.

We are a small family business who have built, created and designed our games using our own ideas and imagination. All of our games are handmade and combine your usual escape room puzzles, challenges and objectives with the addition of something a little unique and a little different. All of our multi-room games are jam packed with with immersive puzzles, challenges and most importantly fun!
Omg Scarlet was by far the BEST escape room we’ve ever done! So fun, so many puzzles that are nothing like you’ve seen before and the hosts are so passionate about what they do. We can’t wait to try more!

TEMPORARILY CLOSED - Gainsborough’s House explores the life and art of Thomas Gainsborough. One of the greatest artists of his age, he is renowned throughout the world for his portrait and landscape paintings. The house, ‘a most excellent Brickt Mansion,’ was bought by John Gainsborough, the artist’s father, in May 1722. Thomas Gainsborough (1727-88) was born in Sudbury and was baptized there at the Independent Meeting-House in Friars Street on 14 May 1727. He lived here until around 1740 when, as a young teenager, he was sent to London to pursue a career as an artist. He returned to Sudbury in the spring of 1749 until 1752 when he painted his celebrated Mr and Mrs Andrews. He never lost the influence of his native town and county. ‘Nature was his teacher, and the woods of Suffolk his academy,’ noted an obituary after his death in 1788.
Fortunately a previously unsatisfactory experience here has been superseded by much more pleasant visits - two this year, in fact, for different exhibitions. This is a very agreeable place to enjoy some quality art in an atmospheric building - there's also a lovely garden, and the staff are good. The house is closing for a major refurb in a month's time, so don't be caught out... it's to be hoped that this doesn't negatively impact on the 'atmospheric building'.

Visited recently to see Stillmarrilion. Everything according to plan, tickets collected at the box office. The theatre is small and intimate and the performance was top rate, so the entire evening was perfect.

Sudbury library is based in the Old Corn Exchange which gives lots of light and galleried study and reference areas with tables and power sockets. There are plenty of seats and a separate children's section. There is a room for hire which seats up to about 30 theatre style with an urn and mugs provided. There is a lavatory. Staff are very helpful. There is quiet but it's welcoming. A good place to browse and at the heart of the town. Tourist information section is staffed when possible and has a wealth of leaflets etc.

In 1971 St Peter's Church was closed for public worship. It is now a cultural and community venue in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust. St Peter's hosts a variety of performances, fairs and exhibitions but is also open for sightseeing. Entrance is usually free of charge, except when there is an event taking place. St Peter's is currently in the process of a major £2.5M regeneration project and will close to the public in September 2021 for urgent repairs and to update facilities. Reopening is planned for Spring 2023 when there will be an exciting programme of events taking place for the local community and visitors alike!

Glad to say this was open on the Saturday morning I visited because it is a treasure house of local history, including interactive screens, flying models of a Zeppelin and World War 2 bombers and the story of 101 Dalmatians and its author. Needs more than one visit to take it all in. I discovered that it is now regularly open on Saturday mornings as well as during office hours on weekdays.
