Things to do in Cabanaconde
Me and my partner were invited here by a Peruvian tourist group we met close to Mirador Achachiua. We had a hearty and tasty dinner for 50 soles including soup, main, desert, drink and tip. Sopa Criolla was the best we had in Peru.
No me gustó, la comida me la dieron salada y se demoraron en atenderme, no lo recomendarÃa por nada, dan malisima atención.
Sol y Sombra is on Plaza de Armas, it's a small place with about 4 tables with doors made out of tin. This is one of those Peruvian places where there is only the "daily menu", consisting of a soup and a main dish, for about 5 PEN ($1.75). We walked in and there was Pokemon playing on the tv, and two other people in the restaurant. Kids were there watching the cartoons, while mom was fixing the lunch in the back. The soup was quite tasty - typical Peruvian hearty potato soup, I forget the name. We were full after the soup. The main dish was iffy, alpaca with sauce and rice, but we were so full by then we didn't care. The tables were nice enough with the typical touristy tablecloths. This is just your average hole-in-the-wall restaurant, nothing special, but if you don't mind a few flies and Pokemon, then you get a lot of food for very little money.

I stayed at the hostel after hiking 23km in one day and decided to eat here because I was too tired to walk to one of the restaurants in the main plaza. The food here cost about twice as much, but is no better. You're really paying for the convenience. The drinks are atrocious! I had a delicious pisco sour at Las Terrazas for s/7 and Pachamama charged about $15. To make matters worse, the drink was so bitter and awful, I couldn't even finish it. The atmosphere is quite nice. They have a woodburning oven in the dining room where they bake the pizzas.

Pro Tip: DO NOT EAT THE FOOD HERE, YOU WILL LIKELY GET FOOD POISONING. My friend and I went to the restaurant attached to Valle del Fuego on recommendation of hotel staff at Hotel Kuntur Wasi. We got there around noon, the restaurant host was really out of it and seated us at a rickety-looking, dirty bench outside with an even dirtier dog sleeping next to the table. Against our better judgement, we stayed at the restaurant, optimistically hoping that appearances were not any indicator of the quality of the food. In short, the food was overpriced, terrible, salty and undercooked. The sanitation of the kitchen was highly questionable. My friend ended up getting a horrible bout of food poisoning for 24 hours after eating here. TL;DR: Don't ruin your canyon experience by eating at this "restaurant".
