We were keen to try this pub after it reopened in the summer and it was a pleasant meal, not outstanding just good pub food and friendly service. Didn’t see the specials board until we were leaving and wondered why there was a lack of fish on the main menu - would have tried the Mussels or fish of the day and probably had a better experience I’m sure. Will go back with friends and try the specials next time

I thought I'd try here as I read the reviews from others and were mostly all good. Having tried the haddock and chips I wasn't disappointed. The fish is all freshly cooked. I do recommend trying the haddock it tastes amazing. I will defentley be going back there before my holiday finishes. Great place for fish and chips in ryde.

Wanted a quick tea on day of arrival so popped into restaurant. Fish and chips ok, my son wanted fishcakes which came with beans or peas, he wanted chips so £9.00 for 2 fishcakes and £3.20 for chips. Outrageous prices and staff plain rude and a bit thick to be honest. Might visit the takeaway but never ever the restaurant again.Hahah, you are the one that can’t read the menu. It clearly states the price and what is included in the meal. Please don’t come back to us or even the Island, stick with MacDonalds at the motorway services. And keep your misery to yourself rather than spreading it around.

Salty's Restaurant & Bar

We have a holiday home in Yarmouth so are there often, however in 15 years of being there I’ve only been in Salty’s 3 times...this time, once to have one drink with some friends & another to hand in someone’s ID card that I found on the floor outside. The only reason we’ve never been in is because there are usually a mass of stripy topped noisy people outside and it’s seemed a bit intimadating. We therefore normally sit and drink at the pub opposite and take humour in everyone’s matching outfits instead, however we decided to look past it and try the food for a change...we even wear the same outfits now! Well we weren’t disappointed. Ok there are things we’d change but for the taste of the food, all could be forgiven. So we booked ages in advance for a 6:30pm slot. Upon arrival we were a little surprised to see there were two long tables so we’d be sitting with others we don’t know. They weren’t there yet as they weren’t booked in until 8pm but we commented on how it would be impossible to fit the other 6 booked people in the tiny space next to us. So we ordered drinks; the other 3 had red wine, but I ordered a ‘large glass of house white wine’. I must say the ‘large’ glass was somewhat small. The glass was average, and the wine in it however was just less than half full. I didn’t want to complain on a first visit, so I just ordered a second glass, which was topped up at the table with slightly less than I had in the first. I took a photo of course as it was below my expectation of a large glass. I wondered if they just said yes but actually only do one size? The house wines all round however tasted great. A good choice. We ordered starters and mains at the same time. Starters were lovely. Really nice. Apart from initially being given the wrong starters which was resolved with super speed, the only feedback we gave them was regarding the moules/mussels. I personally had 5 empty and 4 unopen which for a starter wouldn’t normally leave you with many, although they were excellently sized so not the end of the world. The two that had them had similar issues so the guy with the husky voice apologised and said he’d speak with the kitchen. Calamari was apparently really good. For main, I had the steak; purely because I’d already have fish multiple times during the week so I was a bit fed up of it, and Salty’s seem to have a mainly fish based menu - oops on our part - and I didn’t want pork belly cuz it’s really cheap to buy urself so it seemed a big mark up for me personally. Steak was £32.50 though so not cheap but I’ve had steak all over the place so price for steak doesn’t surprise me, however it was totally worth it. The best fillet I’ve ever had!!!! Came with watercress, mushroom, onion rings and loads of chips (chips come in a large bowl to share). I don’t like watercress normally, but it went so well with this dish. I would 100% eat the steak again!! The others had ribs and more calamari and equally loved theirs! Portions were great. Definately fill you up. All would eat here again for mains. We then asked for the dessert menu but was told as it was 7:50pm we had to leave so couldn’t have dessert as the next table was due in at 8pm. We swiftly pointed out that we hadn’t been told this when booking and the lady said she’d sort something out. She came back and said she’d sorted it and we could stay all night so not to worry. A few minutes later she said actually there had been a change so we could stay but would possibly have to move to stools at the end of the table. The thought of stools to eat desserts on put us off dessert so when she came back we said we’d just have a coffee/gin and go. Turned out the people didn’t turn up for their 8pm slot so we sat at the table in the end anyway, so we could have had desserts in comfort after all; I say comfort, it was fine for me having lots of people bumping Into the back of me whilst they waited for the bar as I go out more often that the others, but the others on my table didn’t like it too much. We had two more drinks in the end as there was a great act on called Andrew Day. Really funny guy. Sings but was a great entertainer. Apparently we’re all going to be on YouTube. His humour is what made us stay longer. I successfully bought drinks but then fell slightly forwards on my way back to the table, spilling my drink in the direction of my father in law ‍♀️ The bar man quickly got me blue paper towels, and whilst another customer offered to buy me another drink, the barman made me a replacement free of charge which was such a kind gesture! He even showed me the measure of gin to show he was making a real replacement. Lol. Was impressed as not all bars do that! Some do but not all! Karma got me back just after though, as the lady got pushed by someone at the bar (accidentally of course) and spilt beer down my back. Again, very apologetic and she got a tea towel and dried me off. I saw a human more fun side to her as the night went on, and she was clearly as frustrated with the people gathering in the alley as my table were, as she asked them to move. I actually didn’t want to leave in the end as I was enjoying the drinks (oh plastic glasses after a certain time btw) and was enjoying the entertainment, but the crowds and noise got too much for my group so we regretfully left. I had a chat with the security man (who also was the guy serving our coffee) afterwards and he told me the history of the act singing. He’s been there years apparently! Most friendly and helpful bloke. We actually had an absolutely great night and we’ve clearly been missing out all of these years! Although I think a table upstairs will be better for us next time if going with the same people. No longer will we be intimidated by the entrance of people. They’re all rather friendly and the food tastes brilliant! Thanks for a great night.

Had lunch here and was not disappointed. Had two starters, fish chowder and moule. The chowder was delicious and full of fish. The mussels were plump and juicy in a lovely broth. My friend had the fish and chips, again very good. Ambience lovely as were the staff. Will be my go to place when on the IOW.

This is a lovely restaurant with spectacular sea views and a great vibe. Beautifully cooked fish with an inventive menu at the price you would expect (£200 for three courses at dinner with two glasses of wine each and service). The only downside was that they really did not understand about gluten sensitivity so this may not be a good choice if you have food intolerances.

Guilty as charged with loving the food and service at Mojac's, the duck, chicken, veggie dishes, and beef pastry were all terrific and don't miss the "nibbles" or the ice cream for dessert. Luckily we had to walk to and from the restaurant to where we were staying on the Isle or we couldn't/wouldn't have eaten so much - but it was just so good. The owner and staff are very attentive and we always were able to reserve and sit at the table in the window so could not have enjoyed our evenings out more. Was a high point of our stay.
