This time, I would like to share my experience in dining at Godong Salam Seafood restaurant last night. One of my friends invited us to have diner with him and after narrowing down our selection, we all decided to visit Godong Salam as none of us ever visited this establishment before. We arrived first in the restaurant and we saw there were only few cars in the parking spots. We came inside and immediately saw some traditional/Javanese (ceramic) statues right upon entering the restaurant. After waiting for a while, our friend came and we selected few menus which we didn't regret at all later on. Drinks were being served in less than 5 minute (quicker than we expected) and our orders were being served within 10 minutes after our drinks.Food quality was nice although we were certain they used MSG but we knew the chef could prepare good food with/without MSG. There were two thing we would like them to improve : First, syrup's quality and second, seating's layout especially in the smaller room. What's wrong with their syrup's quality ?My wife ordered young coconut's drink and they mixed it with red syrup. My wife told me that syrup's taste was strange and after tasting it, I couldn't agree more with her. I was not sure whether the taste came from lower quality syrup or what but somehow, its taste was quite awful. Second, seating layout because the sound easily echoed in a smaller room. During our diner, there was a group of more than 10 people and they were seated behind our table. When they talked, their voice echoed which made it harder for us to talk to each other as we could hear our voice and theirs echoed the louder we talked. It was quite annoying for us to experience this as we could not really enjoy our diner. However, based on the food quality, I am quite comfortable enough to recommend this place to everyone who is looking for good restaurant while they are in town.

First, manyung is a monster salt water cat fish. The most favorite dish here is the Manyung Head, which was around 85k rupiahs. The serving was very big in Indonesian serving. It looked like it served for three peoples. The manyung was smoked and then served with spicy thick soup. If you don't want to eat a big as* fish, there are other options such as manyung meat, goat satay, gulai, shrimp cracker, squids, a lot of menu variations. Second, it is a traditional warung. Expect it to be crowded during lunch time. It costs around 50k-100k rupiahs. The best time to visit is around lunch.

Authentic Thai Food with speciality in variety of basil dishes.
I have been many times when in Ciputra and paragon but first time in the new place. Portions smaller, thank God, quality excellent. It still defeats me how indo families allow their children to scream at the top of their lungs and run around a resto while the maid looks ashamed. No background music until the rabble left. Then... It was put on. Excellent value for money. Anyone moaning should go to Hong Kong and pay a bill there. Mind you, no screaming kids.

Family restaurant located in the center of Semarang city, providing traditional Javanese seafood with locally sourced ingredients. Open all year round including during public holidays.
Went to this restaurant back in July 2019 with my family to have lunch. We ordered fish, srimping (their recommended dish - some kind of kerang/clam), and some other dishes. They are delicious! Sat in the airconditioned room in the middle of the restaurant, quite comfortable. Services are fast, waiters are polite and helpful. The restaurant is a renovated old, colonial-era house and its brightly lit. I like the ambience. There are indoor/air-conditioning and outdoor/open air seating available. We paid around IDR 200k including taxes for 3-pax lunch, so I think the prices are reasonable. We didn't know about this restaurant before, but now it's become our family's favorite restaurant in Semarang.

This place is huge with long tables and many chairs. Our group of 16 people occupied one long table and foods already prepared before we arrived, arranged by a local tour operator. We had various local foods which quite good. Service just okay and rather slow.

Had lunch here. Ordered fried chicken livers, nasi uduk (coconut rice w/ fried onion and chili), grilled chicken leg, a salad of cabbage and cucumber with spicy peanut sauce. All good to very good. Service was pleasant and the interior is spectacular. Prices for the things we ordered were fair. 45,000 for a big Bintang was also reasonable. Well worth a visit.
