I ate breakfast here. There are limited selections for breakfast. The food was okay. The service was okay. The coffee was very good. The ambience was very good. This is one of the few restaurants in this part of town that takes credit cards but they charge a healthy service fee for doing so.

OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND. Cayenas del Mar Beach Club & Restaurant-Bar on Playa Anadel, Samana Dominican Republic. International Cuisine and Seafood specialties.
We booked a Beach Day (11a.m. - 3 p.m.) with Lunch here when our cruise ship visited on Nov. 22. Our party consisted of my husband, daughters, sons-in-law and granddaughter (toddler). The booking was accomplished easily on the internet and we received a confirmation by e-mail. We arrived at the pier early (tendered), but were accomodated as we waited for transportation (by truck, not boat). Everyone was very welcoming and the areas were shown to us (beach, restaurant, showers, bar, etc.). Everything was as good or better as pictured in the website and very clean. There were only a few others there besides ourselves. The beach was clean and only slightly rocky--we soon found the sweet spot of the beach and spent all but lunch time in the water or on the sand! It was picturesque with lots of trees and plants and lawn. We had lunch at the restaurant (no buffet due to few folks), but we were allotted 3 appetizers, 6 entrees and 3 desserts for our party of six--as well as the 12 drink tickets. The food was wonderful and plentiful (except for chicken tenders--not wonderful)! We especially enjoyed the calimari, eggplant roll-ups, yucca fries and fish (whole) Samana style. The sandwiches were good also. I highly recommend this to cruisers who wish a pleasant day with water, sand, and food, and if we should return to Samana, we would almost surely rebook this day. We saw that some people had massages and hair braiding, but we did not inquire since that was not of interest to us. Our transport back to the ship was on a smaller truck, but was timely, leaving as soon as we had changed at about 3 p.m. Giovanni met us and stayed in the area (very good English), but we would have probably been able to communicate effectively, since everyone spoke enough English. Very relaxing day -- pleasant place, good food, and a great day for all of us!

Great place to meet up with ex pats, locals, and tourists. Enjoy fresh made French bread and pastries, as well as sandwiches, pastas and salads. You can also enjoy a cool drink inside where they have air conditioning, or enjoy the breeze and view of the bay on the outside terrace. Jocelyn and the other waitresses always have a smile. If you are not hungry, you can also enjoy a wine, cold Presidente or a Cuba Libre.

Taberna Mediterranea Bar Restaurant - Spanish Style Food, Seafood, Tapas and Great Wines. Outdoor Terrace overlooking the Malecon and the Marina in the beautiful small Town of Samana.
Located at the end of the main strip of commercial buildings along the harbor, Taberna Mediterranea has a really good selection of options along a great variety of food types and price ranges. This place is far more reasonably priced if you are looking for pizza. However, if you are looking for seafood or meat options as we were, do expect to spend a bit more. This wouldn't be considered an "inexpensive" restaurant. It seems that the meal to eat in Santa Barbara de Samana is coconut fish or fish in coconut sauce. Two of us order that here with the fillet. We probably should have gone for the whole fish option as the fillet of mahi mahi was a bit tough. But the sauce was really good. The shrimp was really good! The service was very good and attentive. There was music playing but it wasn't loud enough to be annoying as is often the case in some bars and restaurants. I would probably go back but there is a large enough selection of restaurants in town that I would probably want to try out other options as this was on the high end of prices.

Since I can remember we have been dining at la Hacienda Grill restaurant and it is just fantastic, the super personalized treat of our dear and (sometimes complicated but fun) Jose, makes each experience amazing and so satisfying, perfectly grilled meats, fish and veggies, and depending on the season, there is always a house special of the day. It's a great place to get traditional French cuisine dishes from a true representing French gentleman. If you feel like having something off the menu, just make sure to let him know ahead of time and I'm sure he'll find a way to please your palate's desire.

If you're looking for good food in a nice ambiente, look no further than Mata Rosada. Prices are still reasonable, having paid 630 pesos or 13 dollars for a whole fish and two juices. The fish was delicious, portion was large, spices were to the point.
