The Pub At The Pier

Reviewed By alanhav - Lewes, United Kingdom

Ambience extremely poor. In their advert in locally produced tourism map they state "a selection of superb local seafood along with a number of non-seafood choices". What superb local seafood. Burgers and chips and typical run of the mill stodge with chips. Only seafood was fish and chips with no mention of where it came from.
We left.

Me and my girlfriend came in for a nice lunch after a boat trip on in Uig and getting off the jetty this is what you see.
There isnt alot in Uig granted but this place seemed nice enough at a glance.
When we walked in it seemed like a typical bar as you can imagine not the nicest place but ok i was after food not the atmosphere.
There was hardly anyone in there though and that should have been an indicator enough that it wasnt going to be good!
We ordered a couple of 'Hot baguettes' and some nachos as a starter.
Everything arrived at once which was a bit odd but fine it was only nachos id eat them with my baguette no problem.
It was when the food arrived we knew we had made an error when walking in the door!
The nachos were obviously the cheap off the shelf tortillas covered in some random cheese, cheap salsa and the worse jalapenos iv ever tasted!
The baguettes also were awfull, they were those bake at home things you get at the local shops and they were not even cooked properly let alone close to 'hot' as described.
The obviously florette side salad with nasty dressing was a nice touch too.
I would not recommend anyone visit this place as the food is just crap.
The staff were nice enough but i got to a restaurant to eat nice food not throw money away.
There are plenty of nice places to eat on Skye but this is definitely not one of them.

We'd just taken a hike and needed a cup of tea. But we ordered pies and we were so glad we did. The place is clever and charming. The service was great. But the pies were stunning. Interesting ingredient combinations, flaky crust. It was well worth the stop.

It's great to visit a place several times over the past few years and see it retains its friendly warm welcome with mouth-watering home made dishes and cakes. The roasted mushroom soup (which was soup of the day on our visit) is exceptional and makes you feel as if you will live forever it tastes so good.
Elishadder Arts Cafe deserves its five star rating on all counts.
It is small with around 20 covers, though that will be quite tight, so it is worth staggering your visit to miss the usual busy times if you wish to avoid waiting - outside or in your car as there is little space inside to loiter for long. Prices are reasonable and the portions generous so well worth the visit.
The other side of the Arts Cafe, as its name implies, are the crafts available to buy.

We stopped at the Ferry Inn at the recommendation of our hosts, & they were spot on. The owner clearly takes great pride in what he does, & the food is amazing! The beer selection is great & the service fantastic. Highly recommend giving them a shot if you are in the area, you will not be sorry!

Orasay Tearoom

Reviewed By Frenchie29 - Versailles, France

Coming out of the lovely Uig pottery, I thought I might have a bite and also badly needed to relieve my bladder.
It's only after I had ordered broccoli and stilton soup that I noticed the sign behind me that says that the loo was... the public toilet on the other side of Uig pier parking. I didn't even know you could have an establishment that serves food at tables without having a toilet.
The soup may have been homemade but it tasted suspiciously like something out of a tin. While service wasn't disagreeable as such, the waitress never once managed a smile.
And finally, the bill was very very steep for what I got. Thumbs down.
Later in the day, the lovely staff at Uig Hotel where I had a soft drink made up for the bad experience...

We were sadly turned away at 11.30 am because there was no room. The craft group took up the large table. And people Reading their books waiting for the ferry took up the others. We could have shared! There isn't a lot of choice on the island so to be turned away was disappointing.

Restaurant at the Uig Hotel

Although we did not stay at the hotel overnight we ate here most nights during our 7 nights in Uig. There are two dinning areas the resteraunt and the bar area. The hotel is dog friendly and dogs are allowed in the bar area which is where we ate as we had Sam and Meg with us, the food is excellent with a good choice on the menu and there is also a specials menu every day, I can recommend the Duck. The staff are warm and friendly and very attentive and nothing is a problem for them and they were happy to answer any questions we had on the area.

This building was previously featured as a private residence in the TV show Grand Designs because of the novel building design. The two charming ladies who run this coffee shop have transformed it into a cosy and welcoming place where you can get hot chocolate, teas and coffees with a view. If you are lucky there will be room to sit next to the big picture window that overlooks the sea. Even though the coffee shop is near the road and the sea is some distance away, the views are still beautiful.
