After a long drive along a scenic coastal road, we arrived at Bluff Point, the southernmost occupied place in South Island. Decided on the spur of the moment to have a late lunch at the Drunken Sailor Cafe, a large restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We ordered a Seafood Platter for two but for our convenience and at no charge it was divided into two platters, and what a dish! The individual seafood items were tastefully arranged and beautifully cooked to make an excellent feast, perhaps more suited to dinner than for lunch. We both enjoyed the meal and sent our congratulations to the chef. The staff were welcoming and friendly, as we had come to expect from all in New Zealand. The cost of the meal was a shock in that it was so reasonable! I would have no hesitation in recommending a visit.

Our Hours are Monday to Sunday. 8.30am to 8pm. Great Menu selection, all day breakfast, seafood and non-seafood, snacks or steaks etc. Very friendly, family, relaxed atmosphere. And just a 2 minute walk to the Ferry. Group bookings welcome. In winter, we may close earlier if quiet.reservations are preferred but we know that it's not always possible, so pop on in and say hi.
We enjoyed fresh and battered oysters and then stayed for dinner. Two of us had a meal with salad and the lettuce leaves were well past it and put me especially off my whole meal. The rest of the meals in our party of 6...MoreSorry to hear that. Maybe we could have done something at the time if you had of said something

This place does need a major make over as this could make it the leading tourist attraction in Bluff. People travel far for a good feed of fish and chips near the coast. We had coffee outside it was good.

A really nice restaurant beside Sterling Point sign post and overlooking the Foveaux Strait. Good food at reasonable prices and friendly staff.

I have some good blue cod - others might be on to something with the comments about thick batter but the fish batter was at least crunchy and tasty, however, in the onion rings, it was very hard to find the onion in the batter. The beer battered chips were good but went soggy quickly, while the deep fried camenbert was quite good. Note that the entry for "Bluff Fish and Chips" appears to be the same place as this entry - it's hard to see "Galley" from the outside but the yellow paint is a dead giveaway.

This place has a really good chef. We had the salmon which the mrs said was fantastic, a great mix of flavours. I had the crayfish and the side dish of prawns. The crayfish was as crayfish should be, a treat and half the price I’d pay in oz. The prawns were similarly good value and were really fresh, amongst the best I’ve had and I consider myself a prawn aficionado. The service was good and down to earth.

We got a box of Bluff oysters to take home, but the real bonus was the battered blue cod we also shared - battered to perfection, and you could taste just how fresh the fish was - still sweet. If we weren't saving our appetites for dinner, we would have loved to make a whole meal out of it!
However, note this is only takeaway. Opening times - see the photo of their window where there's a placard with their opening times!

Funky cafe attached to Art Gallery! Good Coffee! Relaxing Atmosphere! Tasty food in a box, prepared with love!
Excellent value for good fresh food. We sat in the adjoining gallery to eat our food. The breakfast was delicious, pancakes and bacon, poached eggs, seafood chowder, BLT etc. Very good value for money. The staff are pleasant and the surroundings relaxed and interesting.
