A friend who had visited Buenos Aires recommended that we visit a ranch to experience the hospitality of the ranchers and the gauchos. We were welcomed with cold drinks and empanadas beside the lovely old building dating back to the 1850’s. We wandered around the beautiful parkland with its many old trees and found some very colourful parrots. Then over to the horses to decide whether we would go horse riding or go for a ride in the buggy. We chose the latter and thoroughly enjoyed the ride along the track beside the paddocks. By this time, we were ready for the amazing Barbecue lunch with a lovely wine under the shade of the old trees. So much delicious food that I could not think of eating any food that night. The entertainment came next with the gauchos performing their traditional dances. A young gaucho showed us how they tamed their horses which was so tender and beautiful. Then it was time for the long drive back to the city after a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Estancia Huechahue is a family owned working cattle ranch located in Northern Patagonia, Argentina. Easily reached from San Carlos de Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes in the Lake District, Huechahue is a perfect addition to your Patagonian itinerary. Come to horseback ride, fly fish, take cooking classes, golf, or just to relax at a traditional Estancia. As a working cattle ranch, Huechahue is a wonderful place to experience traditional estancia life. About 900 head of Hereford cattle and 80 horses are spread over 15,000 acres. Traditional Argentine cowboys, or gaucho’s, roam the ranch, tending to the animals and joining guests on rides and cattle drives. The farm itself is virtually self-sufficient. Water is drawn from an aquifer and electricity from a turbine. Much of the food served at Huechahue comes from the surrounding land. We offer a B&B option of hotel room with breakfast included. Lunch and dinner are optional and paid for separately. We would be happy to help you plan your activities while you are here. Other guests like an all-inclusive package which includes activities like horseback riding or fly fishing. Guests can be assured of excellent services and a warm welcome. The atmosphere at Huechahue is relaxing and genial. Eight guest cabins are spread out through the orchard, a short stroll from the main lodge. Guests gather in the dining room for meals, or the large "quincho" for asados and grill outs over an open fire. We hope to see you soon!
I've just spent 3 days at Huechahue on holiday with a friend and we've had the most wonderful time. We were genuinely very sad to leave which I think speaks volumes for what a fabulous time we had. The estancia is situated in absolutely breath taking scenery. The accommodation was spotless, comfortable and cosy but it was the staff and the animals that really made it special. Josefina was the most wonderful host and guide and Mariana's cooking was amazing (think we put on a few kgs during our stay!) and everyone went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We are both experienced riders and thought the horses were fantastic and the riding was just out of this world. The riding routes were well planned and each day we explored different areas where Josefina pointed out all the wildlife and took us to explore areas of interest like the caves and condor nests in the cliff face. And the review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the dogs, who were wonderful entertainment and great for a cuddle! Thanks to everyone at Huechahue for an incredible few days, hopefully one day we'll be back!

La Usina complex is the ideal place to live a pleasant day in the heart of the Patagonian forest, just meters from the Mitre River. This is a unique proposal, which allows you to do different activities such as horseback riding, cycling, or simply relax on the deck on the banks of the river, the restaurant offers grilled lamb and various a la carte dishes at lunchtime and cafeteria with tea cakes.
Folks @La Usina are so friendly and take care to make you feel right at home and comfortable. We were staying in town but I signed my family up for a 2 hr trip on horseback. We are complete beginners and Omar, our guide was absolutely fantastic taking time to Saddle us up and getting us comfortable on the horses. By the way, the horses are Super laid back and calm. They will trot however if you want to do that. But don’t expect to gallop roam free. These are trails and the horses seem to know where they are going. There are some incredible trails with beautiful scenery on this Ranch and I even herded some cattle. We all had a great time on our horseback adventure at La Usina. Upon our returnThe lunch we ordered was prepared and it was absolutely fantastic. I mean really good and rates there are the lowest I’ve seen...anywhere, ever. My family loved our day here and it is one of the most memorable experiences of our trip next to our glacier adventures. I highly recommend.
