Amazing that these Benedictine monks at St Augustine's Abbey, Chilworth receive scores of prayer requests from all over the world via their website and that this tiny, unknown and beautiful part of the Surrey countryside is such a prayerful place.

You can picture this building and it’s occupants many centuries ago. Build almost 500 years ago. Well worth a look!

Guildford is a unique shopping experience. Never ceases to amaze me how much choice there is for shops / restaurants, historical venues and walks from the High Street - Pewley Down is a MUST if you have the time! Wonderful views from High Street the further up you go, and there are great eating venues for even better views: The Ivy, Thai Terrance & House of Fraser stores. Guildford is easily accessible by train.

A bit off the beaten track. Most people who pass by on the Godalming to Guilford road will have seen St Catherines Chapel but many have never visited it. There is limited parking in Ferry Lane which gives you a couple of hours, which is more than enough. You then need to walk up a hill to find the chapel. Its fairly steep but should be achievable by most people. Once at the top you find a chapel ruin dating back to the 1300's. Built for convenience rather than anything else it still has a magical feel to it. If you visit on a clear day you will get fantastic views of Guildford and surrounding villages. It is also fairly quiet so why not take your loved one on a picnic up there.

Have lived in Guildford for a long time and generally aware that the area had a history in the Gunpowder industry but not explored it too deeply. To get the best out of your visit, download the route directions from the internet - easy to locate & print off - or you might have picked up a Surrey Hill Walks leaflet from a tourist Information office. The walk starts on Vera's Path next to the school in Chilworth and you follow this around until you arrive at the old Mill buildings. If you've got a leaflet or done some research before your trip, then what's left of the old buildings will make much more sense and you can imagine how it all used to work & how gunpowder was actually made & transported up stream. Either way it's an interesting & hidden piece of local history to enjoy & there's a picnic area along the way It's a very peaceful and picturesque part of Surrey - well worth the trip! If you want to continue walking you can exit left at the end of the footpath and head towards Chilworth Manor, Once there, there is a footpath on your right leading to St Martha's Church but be advised - it is a very steep climb & not for the fainthearted! Getting to the top and the church is well worth it - it's a fascinating church & churchyard full of local history with some amazing views. Coming down is much easier and less steep as you follow the North Downs way and the footpath signs.

Tunsgate Arch is located on the high street in Guildford and was built in 1818. It is a walk through way and most people just walk under it without even noticing it. It has an information plaque. The style of architecture is different on each side which is nice to see.
