For pizza in Ellsworth, there's Finelli's ("gourmet" but just standard, a bit overpriced), there's Pat's (fine selection of beer and okay food), and then there's Charlie's, the locals' favorite. Located off the beaten path, just behind the Post Office & around the corner from The Grand. I've never been disappointed with anything from Charlie's, and this includes feeling welcomed and valued as a customer. The food is high quality, very well prepared, and the prices are so spot-on fair. In terms of ambiance, well, this ain't no Ritz: there's a little dining room in the back, clean, nothing fancy -- just darn good cooking. When I go to Finelli's I feel a bit taken for a ride, and when I go to Pat's I feel I'm getting a fair meal at a price higher than warranted. You'll likely not find many summer visitors at Charlie's because if you're driving through Ellsworth, you won't pass it on a major road; but find the Post Office and it's right behind that. It's really nice to find a place where owners and workers take pride in the quality of their work, and treat their customers right. By the way, if you want to buy beer, you can at Charlie's, but consuming it on the premises is not permitted, per its liquor license. (You'd be better off at Pat's if you want to drink + eat.) And oh -- if you're staying at a hotel in Ellsworth, Charlie's delivers. As for Finelli's voted "Downeast's #1"? Because Charlie's doesn't advertise, the shop was not listed among the candidates for voting in the newspaper, FYI. As someone originally from NY, when I want pizza or a sub in Ellsworth, I go to Charlie's.

Amazing wood fire pizza, crisp craft beer and wine, signature french fries, fresh salads, dense Stromboli, and PHENOMENAL WINGS!
I love Dragonfire because they bake their pizza in a huge wood-fired oven that runs at amazingly hot temperatures that results in a crust that's to die for. On top of that, they use good ingredients, offer PBR on tap, and the staff are friendly!I don't come this way all the time but whenever I've got a hankering for pizza that's better than your average (Town Name) House Of Pizza, this is where I go.This time, we got a pizza with Italian sausage, ricotta, and anchovies a Greek salad, and some PBR. All in total with tip I think it came out to about 40 bucks, which is pretty good for dinner for two and a couple rounds of drinks! You can also get fun bar food like poutine which you can't get at a lot of other places in Maine. My one gripe is that they're closed Sunday. But you can't have everything!Oh thank you so much. Im glad you enjoyed us! We hope to see you soon.

This is quite a spacious place and the service was swift, courteous and efficient. Definitely recommend this Pizza Hut !

If you are staying in Ellsworth to check out Acadia National Park make sure you plan accordingly because we found everything in Ellsworth closed before 8pm (we were looking on Wednesday and Thursday nights). We stumbled upon Angelos our first night in Ellsworth after doing a grocery trip for the week and not wanting to cook after just arriving. The mushoom and pepperoni pizza we got was absolutely amazing. We also ordered a greek salad which wasn't anything too special but it sufficed. We caught ourselves coming back from the park after 8 on Thursday and after doing some searching for anything that was open, we ended up back at Angelos because it was so good and ordered the same pizza. This time with breadsticks which was basically just pizza dough with cheese and sauce on the side, and a garden salad instead of a greek salad which was literally the same salad without feta and olives. All in all, if you don't want to cook for the night Angelos was a great spot. They also have some great combo deals on pizza if you are traveling with a family and are look to spread out a couple dinners of pizza across the week to save some dough.

Well, how should I start this one. We ate here about a week and half ago and ordered a large cheese pizza. I guess I should say that I am from NY, and even though the pizza here has a thin crust, all the pizza parlors from NYC to the Hudson Valley do not burn the crust - at least the ones that I frequent. So the pizza, in my opinion, is not the best NY style pizza. The restaurant seems to be too small for eat it, but there are about 10 tables to sit at. There is no A/C, so the heat from the oven really pushes the temperature up to be a little unbearable. There are fans that were on and the windows were open, but that didn't do any good. There is a small game room in the back with Pinball machines. Oh and get this, the guy behind the counter didn't even know what a garlic knot was... Hmm...

We are Downeast Maine's favorite restaurant for pizza, sandwiches, and family fare. We offer dine in and take out and even have a drive through window. Online ordering for takeout is also available from our website.
Great selection of toppings & 2 sizes of pizza. Thin crust & heavy with toppings, not jus a little. Very good.
