Top 9 Neighborhoods in Seattle, Washington (WA)

May 30, 2021 Marlin Saiz

In Seattle you simply can’t skip the Central Public Library – a modern architectural marvel of glass grids, unusual shapes, and a “book spiral” that climbs four stories. Stroll over to Pike Place Market to visit the original Starbucks and play catch with a fishmonger. In the heart of the city lies Chihuly Garden and Glass, which will dazzle you with its colorful and delicate works. Glide to the top of the Space Needle for panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and Puget Sound.

Queen Anne Hill

Residential neighborhood near Lake Union.

I spent a few days in Seattle and explored several neighborhoods. Upper Queen Anne was one of my favorites! It offered lovely views of the Seattle area, and the commercial area around Queen Anne Ave. was utterly charming, with lots of fun local stores, great coffee shops, and some excellent restaurants. Parking was a cinch; most of the local streets had free parking with restrictions of a couple of hours. It’s a great neighborhood for walking; there are great views and many beautiful homes, most in the craftsman style. Certainly worth a visit during a longer trip to Seattle.

We took an Uber as organised tours from Piers all booked. What a great result...so much cheaper and we had time to see the locks operate. Really interesting and all for free! Don’t miss the Salmon ladders....unfortunately we didn’t see any fish....but cool idea and must be wonderful in season. Awesome to see the railway bridge lift to let big boats in and then the locks dip and rise. Incredible!

The statue of Lenin on the corner should clue you in to the fact that everything about this neighborhood is alternative. Vegetarian cafes, eclectic shops, coffee houses, bookstores and street artists abound.

Seattle is a uniquely weird and cool place, and the Fremont Troll is an excellent example of all the creativity that makes this city great. While parking can be dicey, I highly recommend taking a jaunt around the Fremont neighborhood so that you can see the shops AND have a photo opportunity with the troll. Can't miss!

Beautiful Volunteer Park is at the center of this wonderfully multi-faceted neighborhood, where Seattle's gay community and student population co-exist with older residents, historical mansions, up-scale restaurants and shops.

This is one of the upscale neighborhoods in Seattle. I loved walking around browsing the shops, enjoying the greenery. Here you can find an old fashioned theater (SIFF), the Jimi Hendrix statue and much more.

A really fun place to hang out during the day and weekends. Great energy. Excellent Farmers Market on Sundays and really killer restaurants and clothing stores. Has a Haight Ashbury vibe. People from red states are going to whine about it because that is what they do about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Yes, sadly, the US government doesnt have a solution for the drug addicted and mentally ill people who live on the streets, nor do they care, and the homeless end up flocking to coastal regions and major cities.

If you have a faint interest in baseball history, you need to go. If you have an interest in fashion, you need to go. If only I had some $$$ to buy a jersey instead of just a hat (love my Rainers cap). Some said in the past that the service wasn't great, but that was not my experience at all. Highly recommend.
