The Interpretation Centre of Priolo was developed by SPEA in partnership with SRAM (Regional Secretariat of Environment and Sea) and DRRF (Regional Direction of Forestry Resources) during LIFE Priolo Project. Its mission is to raise awareness for the "Priolo" and its habitat, the Laurel Forest. "Priolo" is one of most threatened birds in Europe, existing only in the east part of the Island of São Miguel, where several actions to preserve and guarantee its survival have been carried, since 2003. Objectives: 1. Reception and information center for all visitors to the SPA ZPE Pico da Vara/Ribeira do Guilherme. 2. Create an activity program, aimed to the local population, that can contribute to improve their knowledge and awareness about native species in the Açores. 3. Offer an interesting educational program for schools all over the Azores. 4. Encourage sustaintable development in the region by selling local handcraft and alimentar products, and by developing Eco-tourism. 5. Develop a group of partners and volunteers, that can contribute to the conservation of the Priolo and its habitat. 6. Develop a structure to encourage research on the SPA Pico da Vara/Ribeira do Guilherme. The centre has many activities for the visitors all year round. Visitors will have access to an interactive exhibition that will help to have a better understanding of the flora, fauna and conservation actions present in the SPA Pico da Vara /Ribeira do Guilherme. The center also has a specially designed children area in which they can do activities related to Priolo and Azorean Laurel Forest.

Meet Rocha da Relva, fajã with old-centuries story. This fajã is know for the development of the vineyards. At sea level, profit to relax with the local wine and its derivates. The house is at 5 meters from the ocean, unique in Azores. Unbelievable scenery!

The Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre (CIACV) is a structure dedicated to the promotion of the natural heritage of the Caldeira Velha´s area, which is classified as a Natural Monument. The building has, among other aspects, the main purpose of promoting the particular environmental values, allowing the visitor to discover in loco the particularities of this point of interest and acting as a complementary space of informal education. At the same time offers a wide network of resources and promotes a touristic component. It is also possible to enjoy three thermal pools and a walking trail at the Natural Monument. Concentrated in a space surrounded by natural landscape, the building is noteworthy for being an “object stamped on the landscape”, which adapts to the existing vegetation and rocks, granting it an organic image, consistent with the space.
We came here on a cold January morning, but we didn't want to miss out on this experience. Since a couple of years, this little park asks for an entrance fee (both for visiting and bathing) and there is a ample car park nearby. There are changing booths, WC, showers and a small information center. Recommend to first take a bath in the 24°C pool and waterfall before you head to the 38°C hot springs. It was early morning but already very crowded. Nevertheless an unforgettable experience not to be missed!

Wonderful area with waterfalls, river and a lovely landscape with old beautiful houses with amazing flowers. Even though the area is not too big, everything looks perfect and it is truly a little paradise. I went during low season (November) and there were not many people, which made the visit even more enjoyable. To me it is a must-see in Sao Miguel. .

Lagoa das Furnas so much to see! You can go to the Lagoon itself and do a walk around, visit the park with information, see the locations on they made the famous cozido, or do a little paddle boat in the lagoon! To visit it's about 2euros so really cheap and for the rest you pay extra. You have a cafe, parking spot and a souvenir shop at the entrance. For this view you have to go to the Miradouro Pico do Ferro (only a few minutes by car)
