Valley Forge National Historical Park, one of more than 400 national parks managed by the National Park Service, is a 3,452 acre national park located approximately 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Valley Forge National Historical Park is nationally significant as the location of the 1777-78 winter encampment of the Continental Army under General George Washington. Few places evoke the spirit of patriotism and independence, represent individual and collective sacrifice, or demonstrate the resolve, tenacity and determination of the people of the United States to be free as does Valley Forge. The historic landscapes, structures, objects, and archeological and natural resources at Valley Forge are tangible links to one of the most defining events in our nation’s history Here the Continental Army under Washington's leadership emerged as a cohesive and disciplined fighting force.
This park has a myriad of available activities from the museum to visitors center, historic reenactments, trout fishing and historical landmarks including George Washington's headquarters. Miles of hiking and biking trails, sledding in the winter, fishing in the summer and a huge Deer population. Other highlights include the Arch and Carillon tower.

If you haul in, the best trailer parking is the Red Trail Parking Lot off Knight Rd. There is a smaller lot for day parking by the Equestrian Campground, but unless you are overnighting you may not park in the camping area. Portable toilets are available and well tended. The red trail is wide with good footing and moderately hilly, a fairly easy ride out and back. If you park by the equestrian campground the blue trail is more of a wooded path with a good number of steep hills up and down and takes a fitter horse to go out and back. If your horse is fit for a longer ride, you can go from the red trail to the blue trail via a bridge with a dedicated pedestrian/bike/equestrian lane separated from the cars by a safe barrier. You then take the Perk. trail to the connector trail and back to the red trail. Probably 12-13 miles with easier and harder bits. The connector trail is paved on one longest segment. You can also park in the red lot and go on the connector trail to the Perk. Trail to the orange loop and back the way you came. It’s a little shorter and easier riding than circling the lake on the red and blue trails. The orange loop is a pretty forest path, lots of rocks. All the trails are well marked and there are good map signboards and paper ones to put in your pocket at the trail heads. We saw deer, lots of waterfowl, and plenty of song birds. Also, watch for trees downed by beaver along the lake. Impressive what they can take down!

This is a great group that helps keep this trail awesome. Who would have thought you can hike from the suburbs to philly on one single trail. We parked by the home depot/Ikea in chonshy and rode our bikes to the art museum in Philly with the kids. At the end of an adventurous day we then took the train back to Penllyn and biked home. I recommend this!!

Rich in modern recreational facilities and historical significance, Fort Washington blossoms with flowering dogwood in the spring. The park takes its name from the temporary fort built by George Washington’s troops in the fall of 1777, before heading to Valley Forge. The park is popular with hikers and picnickers. Birders enjoy the seasonal migration of raptors from the Observation Deck.
NIce park for hiking and bird watching. My grandson spotted a bald eagle soaring high above us. Well maintaining hiking trails, Great for a day out with the family.

This is a lovely place to visit. The house is unfurnished so one is able to appreciate the architectural details. The tour guide was full of interesting information and amusing historical anecdotes. That said the outstanding feature of the visit is the garden, especially the Hidden Garden filled with amazing horticultural architectural features.
