Montreal, c’est si bon! This French-speaking city is considered the cultural capital of Canada, and is a cosmopolitan celebration of Québécois style. A horse-drawn carriage ride around the cobblestone streets and grand buildings of Vieux-Montréal will give you a taste of European flavor. The Basilique Notre-Dame is a confection of stained glass, and the Plateau Mont-Royal district will delight you with its quaint boutiques and cafés. Dig in to a massive plate of poutine to fuel up for a tour of the epic Olympic Park.

Chateau Dufresne (Dufresne House)

This is really a hidden gem if you like house museums. The duplex is well restored on the inside and they are currently working on the outside. It is close to a metro stop and very reasonably priced. The self guided audio tour is easy to manipulate and the tour takes about 1 hour to complete.

We went to see the penguins, primarily, but were duly impressed. The Biodome is an indoor zoo, with three distinct "zones" - first a tropical rainforest (with a caiman and a sloth, among other things), boreal/Laurentian forest (including river otters!), and subpolar regions, which is where you'll find the penguins, the main attraction for the place. You simply follow the path along and there are interactive displays to help you understand what you're seeing. Easy to access on the Metro, and expect to spend two hours.

We went with 2 children ages 6 and 8. The Planetarium has helpful descriptions and age ranges for each show. This is important because you will be asked to leave if your child cries during the show. Also, make sure your show is in the language you need. There are shows in French and shows in English. There are many interesting exhibits for children including a piece of meteorite from Mars. There is a nice gift shop but check the exchange rate if you are paying in U.S. currency.
