The maritime museum is situated in beautiful Tollerodden and is open to visitors during the summer. On first floor is “Discoverers and adventurers” – an exhibition of eight Larvikings who challenged the oceans. On ground floor you will find exhibitions of war sailors and whaling companies from Larvik.
Larvik Museum is situated at Verksgaarden in Langestrand, an old part of Larvik. Main exhibitions: «The forgotten town": As a Danish countship Larvik was closer to the wheels of power than any other Norwegian town, and its culture, architecture, crafts, and traditions thrived under the foreign influences. Today, however, the union is seen as a period of subjugation, a night that lasted 400 years, and is often downplayed as a part of the nation's history. This exhibition examines some of the people who formed the town and gave it its own character. "Larvik in a period of change, 1880 - 1915": Larvik has been through a period of dramatic change. Heavy industry has been closed down and much of the daily commerce has been moved out of the centre. Areas that used to teem with life are now deserted, while spots once inaccessible have become today’s meeting places. A period of similarly drastic change affected Larvik society in the years 1880 to 1915.
Hedrum Rural Museum is a rural museum with oldies and goldies from the Hedrum village. Located in Kvelde in Lagendalen, it gives tourists a taste of the typical Hedrum farm only 20 minutes away from Larvik city centre. From 1985 onwards the Hedrum Rural Museum is owned and run by Hedrum Historic Preservation Association and comprises 1 acre of land and 4 houses. The main living quarters have been restored to resemble a typical Hedrum farm from around 1900. An old shop has been set up in the corner room. There is a collection of old kitchen utensils, handicrafts, tools and implements at the museum, and there are exhibitions of local art, handicraft and a proper exhibition of the Norwegian Resistance Movement's contributions during World War 2. Hedrum Rural Museum is open at Sundays from the middle of June until the end of August.
