Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre

The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre was established to provide a world-class destination for the appreciation of historic aircraft. Some of New Zealand's most respected cinematic and special effects craftsmen have created a dramatic aviation theatre in which original and full-scale replica WW1 and WW2 aircraft, both static and flyable, are presented in all their glory. The museum is home to two exhibitions, "Knights of the Sky" and "Dangerous Skies". The former is on long-term loan from film director Sir Peter Jackson and comprises one of the world's largest collections of World War One aircraft and rare memorabilia. Thanks to Sir Peter's generosity the aircraft have been brought to life in a series of dioramas created by Wingnut Films and enhanced with lifelike mannequins by Weta Workshop. "Dangerous Skies" utilised local talent and features stories from World War Two and takes visitors on a geographical as well as an historical journey.

Return to Eden Gallery

Marlborough is not only rich with vines flowing wine, but also blessed with local artists and crafters. I have a vision for Marlborough to showcase its local talent and what better way than to open a gallery & craft shop where people can exhibit & share their creations. “Return to Eden Gallery” will supply quality paintings, pottery, sculptures, jewellery and weaving, creativity utilising materi

Omaka Classic cars

Situated next to the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre on the outskirts of Blenheim and showcasing around 60 vehicles from the 1950's to the 1990's, the collection offers a special insight into both Marlborough and New Zealand motoring history from that charismatic period where space, grace, chrome bumpers, large grilles and individual design were allowed to run wild. The total collection is about 115 cars, with half on display at any one time.

Super place to visit, a trip through memory lane! Gentleman who was hosting visitors was passionate and interesting and so friendly. Felt like we, our parents, or someone we knew had owned just about every car in the place over the last 50 -60 years. Evoked great memories and stories.

Marlborough Farming Museum

Astonishingly huge collection of farm machinery from the Marlborough area and beyond with many restored machines but most still in their natural state. A must see and for $5 entrance fee a bargain half day experience. Don't miss the Heritage Cottage either. It's an authentic look back into the way the early settlers lived in this part of the world.

Where Nelson's museum from the outside promises much but delivers little, Blenheim's is almost the reverse. It has what every museum should have: carefully-curated informative exhibits, peace and quiet, and enthusiastic helpful staff. And unlike many museums in the provinces, it is far from provincial! And specifically: an excellent array of pieces from the Wairau Bar site, with excellent displays giving them context. An excellent small museum.

Blenheim isn't all vineyards, there are other aspects to this place too. We really enjoyed our visit here to this small but interesting gallery in the centre of town. There is a feature about the commemorations of the arrival of the European settlers and some of the many issues this raises especially from a Māori perspective. The exhibition features some stunning short films (it would be even better with some seating to watch these from). The small shop is excellent too.
