Like a fair number of folks, I don't like Cilantro and I'm not sure why it gets such widespread use when it destroys meals for so many people. As is usually done at every other Mexican restaurant, Maya Restaurant offers up salsa and corn chips and the lovely red sauce tastes like liquid soap. I always wonder why there isn't a choice of salsa or soap with the corn chips and help out the huge number of anti-cilantro folks.Adding a layer of detergent to your taste buds is not a good start for any meal but the high praise heard about this family operation moved us to move to bigger and hopefully better things.Ah, the better things. How about Chile Rellenos for lunch? Asking about cilantro, we were assured that there was none used in these dishes. Usually when told that none is used, it means that only a little bit is hidden in the mix to make things taste better. Maya Restaurant knows what they are doing and when they tell you that they don't use cilantro, you can believe it. And the food is fantastic. The rice, the sauce, the refried beans, the tamales, the chile rellenos all come together to create a perfect meal.Service is friendly, happy, helpful, and a great treat.Decor is beach town casual with lots of parking. Prices are about right for the location but a bit low based on the food quality. Because of that sneaky, soapy cilantro, this can't be scored as a 5 but if that noxious weed doesn't bother you, it could be solid winner when you visit.
Worst âstreet tacoâ ever! Waited about 15 minutes for chopped onions and cilantro. Not much meat. Driest asada ever -more like unflavored jerky. Must have been made a day or two ago. Customer service poor also. After 60+ years, I really donât need to be educated about the difference between a street taco and processed tacos. Save your $1.80 and splurge on a slice of pizza at Sabettaâs.

Having sampled the clam chowder at street level one evening, we went here for lunch the next day. The "Mexican" clam chowder soup is a new favorite for me. Corner seating would have a lovely view if the double pane glass window was replaced. View of the harbor and The Rock was beautiful even in the middle of the day.

Enjoyed eating on the patio with our pup. The food is good and tastes very fresh. The service was good and the waitress was friendly.

We had great hopes for Taco Temple based on the mostly glowing reviews, but we were disappointed. Since theyâre known for their tacos that was what we ordered. These looked great on the plate and were generously sized, but this turned out to be deceptive. A big pile of greens, shredded red and white cabbage, radish, etc., thinly sauced, partly concealed the relatively small portions of protein within. The protein - salmon in one case, carnitas in the other - was of good quality, and properly cooked, but the tortillas below were clearly from a package, not homemade, and were smeared with a light chipotle that added little to the overall appeal of the dish.Since the carnitas and salmon were tasty Iâd give this place four for the food, were it not for the high prices, which are not justified by the quality or quantity of ingredients. Theyâre certainly not spending the money on anything else: decor is virtually non-existent, furniture is cheap metal, cutlery is thin, napkins are paper, and tap water is served in plastic cups.Several reviewers liked the self-serve chips and salsa, but lots of cheaper places offer the same thing with more variety. We didnât try the rice and beans, which cost extra and look pretty standard. Overall, we feel that Taco Temple is a gimicky place, not really serving Mexican food, and giving poor value for money.

Our last review of Martin's gave it five stars. This one is four stars, but thatâs more a recalibration than a demotion. Weâve now visited multiple Mexican restaurants on the Central Coast and have a slightly different view about relative ratings in the area. When we first moved to San Luis Obispo we felt hard pressed to find a good Mexican restaurant. So when we found Martin's in Los Osos we were thrilled to have a spot offering very good food. Thus the first rating. While we've eaten at Martin's restaurant in Cayucos for years, we've only been coming to their Los Osos restaurant for the last nine months. Thereâs a good reason why we keep going backâthey are consistently dependableâalways offering very good food and very good service. Weâve never had a less than enjoyable eating experience there. Having said that we have had a couple of issues on our last two visits. Most recently, the carnitas in my wife's tostada was over cooked, on one side, suggesting that it came off the bottom of whatever pan it was cooked in. The meat was still very flavorful and my wife enjoyed her meal but that seared side made the meat too tough. On a couple of occasions we have struggled with the noise level at the Los Osos location, in each instance due to very loud patrons and crying babies. There isn't anything to deaden the noise and there isnât a seating section where we could get away from it.Still, we will return, because consistency and dependability matter. Plus, the people at Martin's are exceptionally friendly and that matters, too.

The food at La Casita's is tasty and nice and hot (as in out of the oven, not as in spice) but there is plenty options to add more flavor to your dishes if desired. Although they recently redid the front entrance and inside is the same very dark, older atmosphere.

We came here as a fivesome. Service was a tad slow, but it was very busy. Prices are more expensive than another established place in Los Osos, but the quantities were simply huge for the ceviche cocktail, fish burrito (mega-huge), combo platter (my friend did not eat the burrito). My ceviche tostada was average sized but filling. The chips were made there and good with their mild salsa. We ended up taking half the ceviche cocktail home. They also used non foam takeout containers which was nice. My friend only ate 1/3 of her huge fish burrito. Wine and beer only there, no hard liquor drinks.
