We visited this little restaurant en route from Switzerland to Lake Como. The food was great and the atmosphere really welcoming, it felt like we were the only tourists there. There was no written menu but we found food we liked and the price was pretty decent too. The only downside was that one of the waitresses was quite surly but otherwise, no complaints, w'll worth a visit if you want traditional Northern Italian food.

Don´t be afraid to visit this restaurant even though it´s a part of the hotel which is usually not a good sign. However this place is really amazing. The environment isn´t the most beautiful I have ever seen, but the quality of the cousine moves everything onto the highest levels.I tried a traditional regional menu - pizzoccheri della valchiavenna, deer and desert being surprised by a small antipasto before as a free gift. This even helped to completely destroyed me as everything was so good not to be able to leave anything. Be aware that the portions are huge here, for example pizzoccheri could be enought for a diner, but it would be pity not to try also something else. Having closed everything with local amaro was a final point of a perfect experience which I would like to repeat.

We dined here on the 31st August 2014 with our very close friends. This was our first visit to a Crotto and it specialised in all the meats cheeses and local dishes from The Valtellina. We were very lucky to be sitting next to a lovely family and they advised what to order and they also advised that the portions were so good and abundant that we should only order three meals for four people and it was sound advice. We had three menus and the meats and the pasta dishes was great. In Fact, the whole meal was a big hit with our friends also.Location was along a mountain river that flowed well as it was a season of lots of rain. Check out the location on the internet before you go as it is a little tricky to find. The Crotto is very close Chievenna and it is just off the Statale on the right in Piuro

The "Crotti", typical environments of Chiavenna and its valley are scattered about ninety locations, including the most important is this Pratogiano. Arise out of a window of the natural rock (in dialect "Sorel") from which blows a stream of air at almost
On 21st August we made a day trip to Chiavenna from Lake Como with family friends. We had a lovely time wandering around this beautiful mountain town and we decided we would like to eat in a "Crotto".Chiavenna is famous for "Crotti" A Crotto is a natural cavity in the mountain where the temperature is ideal for storing wine, cheese and local meats.I selected Crotto al Prato and while we were trying to find it, we asked a local for directions and he directed us, saying that we had chosen the best one in Chiavenna. We will be returning - it was fantastic. The staff and the owner were delightful and the local dishes were wonderful and the portions were very generous.Price was very reasonable and the owner told us to take a wonder inside the Crotto to see where all the "goodies" are stored. Check out the photos I took!!If you are in Chiavenna and having lunch , here is one for the short list.Wish I could go to the Festival of the Crotti in September!!

Had a lovely evening here in Chiavenna at the Trattoria del Mercato, shame we couldn't sit out on the terrace but managed to grab a table outside, off the street. I had the argentinian tagliata which was delicious, served with rucola and parmesan cheese, my husband had the veal steak and the rest of the team had the pizzoccheri. Service was a bit slow but the restaurant was packed so......

We enjoyed lunch at this place on hot day comfortably cool right under the ledge. Nice variety of local food at reasonable prices.

Food was top of excellent. Everything just very, very tasty, in particular the risotto porcini (half porcini, half rice). Service okay but not brillant. Awful music from the speakers. Avoid a table in the rear as it is right next to the dish washing.

Dishes are beautifully presented. I had ravioli stuffed with herbs and covered with violas. An exceptional dish in terms of taste and presentation. As a starter, I had an onion soup, which was so very rich. Not like any onion soup Iâve had before. Tasty, yet too much. Helpful staff
