We frequented California Shabu Shabu since it opened more than 10 yrs ago. It always have delicious food, fast service, and great value. Downside is there is always a super long wait time and no reservations. California Shabu has the best sesame and ponzu sauces. We love their udon in soup bases. They opened a branch in Santa Monica but poor business and rice is cold and hard, just not the same as the one in Fountain Valley.

Had the pleasure if eating here for dinner for the first time. I was surprised by the wide selection of colorful, appetizing meals. I had the Unaju which was freshwater eel over rice (donburi) garnished with avocado, salmon eggs and tofu. It was quite delicious. Others had Chirashi which they enjoyed immensely. Served with hot green tea, the meal was complete....not a huge serving but enough for me! I cant wait to go back!

At first we were a little suspicious due to a snafu for our large party. The confirmation call happened, but it was mysteriously "lost". After a big scramble to fix it and two hours later, and gracious apologies from the owner and staff, all was well. The meat quality was out of this world. And this is even including the fact that the "highest" grade was sold out! Our party had the tongue and three other grades of meat, plus kimchi fried rice and the raw. All were excellent, and the freshest and best quality we'd had. Beer was served in perfectly frosty steins. They need to really let every other restaurant know how this is done. The finale for everyone who claimed to be full was either ice cream or the ice cream in coconut milk with tapioca pearls. Outstanding. Not too sweet or heavy. Very, very nice. We consider this to be a do over and hope the reservation thing doesn't hijack our next visit. If you don't make a reservation, apparently a 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait is normal. And by the looks of the crowd, everyone thinks it's totally worth it.

The ingredients are fresh and the sushi fantastic, the daily specials are always excellent and creative. So many places you walk in and the sushi chef is gruff but not here the owner is behind the counter and friendly and talkative. We always sit at the bar and talk. I can't make it here often but when I do I try to stop by. Highly recommended

Interesting rolls, good variety (huge menu) but the fish is very good, casual and easy, fine for kids, and relatively quick to get in/out (so don't worry about a small line).

Here's a popular lunch spot with good food at good prices. Although they consider this a sushi restaurant, it has plenty of hot entrées on the menu. My mother likes to order the special that comes with chicken teriyaki and California roll, rice, miso soup, and salad. It's plenty of food for around seven bucks. I like to order the pork cutlet bowl, a tonkatsu/omelet donburi that's similar to oyoko (chicken omlet) donburi. The place gets busy at lunchtime. Staff is friendly but with the demands could stand to be expanded. Yet, service is reasonable and the dining room is comfortable.

Japanese Izakaya. Restaurant does not take reservation on the day of or for small parties. Just go and expect to wait a little bit. The menu is extensive and you can very much get anything Japanese. Izakaya food, noodles, sashimi. . . . itâs worth going to with friends or family.

One of my regular yakitori robata restaurant, this place always provides positive energy and fun dinning experience. Beside various yakitori skewers, there are plenty of vegetarian options as well. The small plates are executed well and tasty. Plenty of Sake, Souju options as well.

Dropped by this inconspicuous looking restaurant (at least from the outside) on a Monday for a quick lunch. So glad I did! It's very dimly lit inside, and has a very serene vibe (you almost forget you're in Huntington Beach). Their lunch box for $12 is a total steal! Fried rice was yummy, tempura was on point and the sashimi was great. I wasn't a huge fan of the skewered meat and teriyaki chicken (a little too chewy and sweet).Polite and efficient staff. Just on a side note: I don't know what their sushi is like, the sashimi was really good but definitely not the best I've had. Will definitely be going back for a full out dinner!
