Stella Maris Lighthouse and Carmelite Monastery

Serving as a pilgrimage centre, this impressive church of the Carmelite Order houses a collection of antiques and its nearby monastery once served as a hospital for Napoleon’s soldiers.

Had a simple and quiet lunch here at the monastery arranged by our pilgrimage operator. This after mass by our group and visiting the church itself with a statue of Virgin Mary venerated by many Catholics here. A cave underneath the altar is the statue of Prophet Elijah who had lived here for sometime. If you want to experience some solitude, this place in Haifa is the place to be.

It is always very emotional to return to this historical location, so important to the rich cultural heritage, especially bringing children to witness up close the historical site

Theatre at Caesarea National Park

Reviewed By TimC948

This is somewhere I have been wanting to visit for a long time. Caesarea Maritima was the capital of Roman Judaea, so included many of the features of Roman civilisation, including this magnificent amphitheatre. When we visited, we were free to wander around and even sit where theatre goers of two thousand years ago would have enjoyed, perhaps, a Roman adaptation of a Sophocles play or other Greek drama. The theatre is still in use which explained the modern sound and other equipment on the stage when we were there. It somewhat marred what otherwise would have been some evocative photographs, but so be it. If you are interested in classical antiquity, do not give this a miss.

HaMizgaga - Museum of Archaeology and Glass

Archaeological Museum of Excavations at Tel Dor. A wealth of artifacts from different periods. I love the small glass collection from ancient times. The building itself is of historical importance from the beginning of the period of the Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel. And after the visit go to the sea near the kibbutz

According to tradition, the prophet Elijah lived in this cave on Mt. Carmel in the 9th century and hid there when fleeing the wrath of King Ahab and his wife, Jezebel.
