A visit to Det Gamle Apotek is a must if you are in Southern Denmark. It is particularly lovely (and busy) at Christmas time, but they sell Christmas decorations all year around.

The experience of driving on the beach during low tide is unique! Amazing beach for long walks and collecting shells. Just be aware of the tides! Part of this unique "Wadden Sea" is that the tides go very far out, and where you are standing at low tide will be almost 2 meters under water at high tide!

Stretching south from Fano off the coast of Denmark down through Germany, the Wadden Sea is a stunning shallow coastal sea with lots of sand banks and mud flats giving breeding grounds to many bird species. Great views on the boat ride over from Esbjerg to Fano, and travelling along the Danish coastline. Great spots for picnics and watching the sunsets. Swimming is possible - though its very cold!!! Excellent place to spend a quiet few days in Denmark.

Behind Højer Sluse was a safe trading port with traffic and busy companies. Højer Sluse was built at the same time with the Højer-Siltoft dike in 1861. In the past, the ships could safely enter the Højer Canal. With an open lock in the dike ships with masts could sail into Højer Harbor, which was situated within the dike. The port was connected with the lock factory, which produced feed flour. Højer Havn was used primarily as a port of call, especially for building materials, fuel and fertilizer for the local businesses. But for many years, the harbor was also the framework for tourist traffic. Guests to the Sild spa baths traveled to and from the Wadden Sea with a steamship from Højer, where they came by train. On the route from Hamburg, extra train was taken in and drove directly to the quayside at the lock. Imposing and incredibly beautiful views of the Wadden Sea. Lots of birdlife and a fantastic piece of Danish nature.
