We visited Kiambethu earlier today and it was a superb experience. A short picturesque drive from Nairobi CBD area, it is a perfect day trip to do. From the welcome we received once we arrived, to the tremendous talk that Fiona gave us about tea (we learnt so much, and yet it was not information overload) and finally to the amazing tea and lunch - everything was just perfect. The farm house is really charming and lawn and gardens are beautiful and a great place to spend some time too. The walk through the indigenous forest was also refreshing. Fiona and the team have really made their home a little piece of heaven and it was lovely to be their guests for the day - everyone makes you feel right at home. The only difficulty with coming here is that you don't want to leave.

Bio-Ken Snake Farm

Bio-Ken is a research centre, which deals with reptiles, especially snakes and snake-bite. Located less than 5 minutes drive from the hotels in Watamu - Kenya, it houses the largest collection of Snakes in East Africa and is open to the public. There are about 127 different snake species in Kenya. Of these only 18 have caused human fatalities and only another 6 could kill you. Another 10 could cause you a lot of pain and the remaining 93 or so, are non-venomous nor dangerous.

The Snake Farm worth a visit. It will not take long ( 1 hour maybe?) but you will get lots of info some very curious others maybe useful in the future who knows ? We had a friendly and smiling guide who take us around the farm and showed us tons of snakes of different species ( some among the most poisonous ones like the green mambas) explaining us where they live, how they live, how dangerous they are and how you can survive a bite. You can touch a snake if you like ..but do not have to ! Especially with kids it is a place not to be missed ! The entrance fee is not the cheapest one but they use the money to work with snakes, collecting the poison and preparing the antidotes. And removing snakes from houses or hotels in case one "got lost "and goes around a lodge ! They simply pick it up and bring it back to the forest ( hopefully far enough not be back the day after !)

Brown's Cheese Factory & Farm

If you love cheese, Brown's Cheese Tasting Room is for you. We offer a unique foodie experience, just west of Nairobi. Brown's has been making cheese in Kenya for over 30 years, and we now invite guests to come to our facility to see how cheese is made, sample several varieties, and enjoy a delicious lunch sourced entirely from our organic garden. A typical visit to Brown's starts with a welcome drink and snack, followed by a cheesemaking demonstration by your host. This is followed by a tour of our production facility, with the highlight visiting one of our cheese caves, and seeing thousands of cheese maturing using traditional methods. After the tour, we sit down for our cheese tasting. We know that traditionally the cheese course is served after the meal, but we're cheese people and believe it is best enjoyed with a blank palette and an empty stomach! We taste 8-10 of our handcrafted cheeses, along with homemade crackers, breads, chutneys, plus our carefully selected house wines. We finish with a seasonal light lunch, typically consisting of soups, salads, and flatbreads, followed by dessert and coffee. Kids will love exploring the garden and animals, and even milking a cow. Our tasting room is open Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays, but reservations are strictly required. Plan ahead, as Saturdays can be booked many weeks in advance. We look forward to introducing you to the wide variety of delicious cheeses crafted by Brown's.

Browns Village Market - One of the things that will always keep me going back to this beautiful place is there grilled cheese. i have tried many but this particular one that i had was the best that i have had in this side of Africa! .It was a smoked chicken sandwich, i was hesitant to try but Muthoni recommended and assured me that i will love it. She made it according to my liking i wanted it spicy and more cheesy and I must say. It was the best chicken sandwich I have ever had, and comes with fresh home made chips! Awesome and a must try for 7 usd!! Fresh bread , Fresh cheese, freshly made with a smile ! Well recommended!
