2 Years ago some friends of ours told us about this tour. We did not know much about the Etruscans or Tarquinia - what an experience! The guide picked us up at our hotel in Civitavecchia and we drove to the cute little town of Tarquinia - then out to where the Etruscans were buried in caves underground. There are about 20 different graves that you have to walk down many steps to be able to see - each one holds unique colorful murals. Then we ate a fabulous Italian lunch and then to the Etruscan museum to see all the artifacts that have been discovered. Our guide took us on a tour of the old city in Tarquinia and then back to the hotel late afternoon - very unique excursion that we highly recommend!

What a trip! Adam, our driver, was fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble for him. The day went according to plan and we had marvellous visits to both the extensive complex of Villa Adriana and then taken up the hill to Villa d’Este and its magnificent water gardens. Thoroughly recommend this out of Rome trip although pre-trip communication from the local provider could be improved.

3. Private Tarquinia&Cerveteri shore excursion from Civitavecchia's port

Best Rome Travel S.R.L.

The most striking aspect of Tarquinia is undoubtedly the legacy left by the Etruscans. The Necropolis of Monterozzi (the highlight of your visit) dates back around 3000 years and has about 200 painted tombs.Visiting the Necropolis of Tarquinia (inserted onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004, ) is beyond doubt the best way to get to know the magnitude and at the same time the artistic refinement of the Etruscan people. Not less interesting, to learn about the Etruscans, is The Necropoli della Banditaccia, in Cerveteri which has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site together with the necropolis in Tarquinia. It covers an area of 400 hectares (990 acres), of which 10 hectares (25 acres) can be visited, encompassing a total of about 1,000 tombs often housed in characteristic mounds. It is the largest ancient necropolis in the Mediterranean area.

Inclusions: English speaking driver- Some tombs are equipped with a multimedia apparatus.

Exclusions: admission, food and drinks, gratuities.

If you have been to Rome before & have seen all the sights, this should be your next ‘excursion’. We had a private driver take us to Tivoli where we met our private guide...a Roman history schoolteacher who was filling in for a friend. She was sooo knowledgeable! It was HOT, but there was water along the way. The history of Hadrian (Adrian to the Italians) was mind-boggling!! Amazing how they could build what they did in only 20 years! The second part of the tour was nearby & much more lush & beautiful (see pics). Lunch was on our own. Tour guide had a few recommendations. Loved the one we chose (see my review). I liked that we had time for a leisurely lunch nearby before we met our driver for the trip back to our hotel.

Cesar, our driver was punctual for pick up at our Hotel in Rome and throughout the visit to Assisi. He advised us as to what we were going to visit and where to go. Even though we did not employ an licensed guide, Cesar information directed us to what we needed. We had a very nice lunch in Assisi, one that Cesar said was going to have the flavor of the Region, which it did. We arrived gback in Rome around 1730-1745, just in time to go to Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus, just a block away from our Hotel, Royal Santina, Best Western. Stefano Tours will be are first choice for Tours or Transfers on our next visit.

I love a good walking tour! It's the first thing I like to do when arriving to town since it gets you oriented to the major history and then gives you ideas of stuff to see.. We packed so much into the tour. The Square, government buildings, sculpture, orthodox church and mosque - wow so cool, and lots of other little things we eyed up to go back and enjoy.. Rate this one an "A"!
