I had dinner at the China Gourmet Restaurant and found their food to be pretty good, much better than the average Chinese restaurant. They have a lunch special, and several dinner specials. I had the Uncle Charlie's Special, Salt & Pepper Pork Chops. It was very good. The hot & sour soup was okay, the pork fried rice and chow mein was good. All in all I would go back again.

During their grand opening, I went to this restaurant several times. Each time, the service was slow (too long for lunch time) and I had to basically ask for everything, water, tea, check, etc. The servers are very disorganized and I felt like I need to get up and help them (being a former waitress during my teen years). The food however, was tasty but took a long time to get. Sorry for this review but it is my honest truth. Perhaps there has been some changes to servers???

My ratings, based on previous experience with similar establishments, is 3=meets expectations, 4=exceeds, and 5=blown away.We love Canton. The proprietors are Chinese, supporting the views of "Introspicere" about the authenticity of the food. Huge portions of very tasty grub for very modest prices. The wife serves and she is just delightful. The speed at which her husband prepares the fresh food is amazing. The atmosphere is very casual and the place rarely has more that 3 parties dinning at a time, but there is a steady stream of take-out traffic.

After getting lost and ending up in the wrong town, stopped in here for lunch. Wife and I had the wonton soup and spring rolls. Broth was flavorful and loaded with wontons, and they were tasty.Spring rolls and dipping sauce were also good. Thai tea was good. As noted, there are places to sit, but is mainly a takeout place.

Recommended by 3 locals and especially suggested to try the sweet & sour chicken and with surprise found that the pork chop seuy was the best I have had, as was the sweet & sour chicken, and the fish fillet with veggies and brown sauce. The taste, the preparation and the cheap prices were a good cause for me to return each time I come north to visit my grandson. Quiet owners and very clean as they are hard workers dedicated to quality and terrific taste of whatever they make. They close at 9:00pm.

I went in for lunch for the lunch special with my friend and it took a good 20 minutes before our dishes came out. Its a small place. They seemed to cook the to-go orders before serving the people that are here sitting in the chairs. I think it should be the other way around. Average flavor, decent price but priority was mishandled by management.

Located in downtown Martinez, Sunflower Garden is family owned and operated. It is comfortable and inviting and has a very extensive menu. There are a number of special lunch items as the restaurant is near a number of government office buildings and the court house. There is also a full bar. The restaurant is comfortable and welcoming with a refined décor. The servers are very gracious and efficient. There is metered street parking and a small lot across the street. The very busy Martinez Amtrak depot is two blocks away so this is a convenient place to dine before or after the train trip.

I don't often eat Chinese food, but when I do, I want something special and Sunflower is something special. First the staff are wonderful. Second the flavorings on the food are unique and everything doesn't taste the same. Third, they will accommodate special requests. This trip we had the walnut shrimp, general chicken, Hunan chicken and schezwan chicken. Each of the flavors were profoundly different and the dishes cooked perfectly.
