This restaurant is attached to the Lamplighter Motel and when I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights we never tried to Chinese restaurant as most of these metro restaurants in Australia are western Chinese which is boring and not authentic. As I travel to China often and my wife is Chinese we usually can find 1 or 2 good places to eat in Chinatown. On my last day at the motel we could not be bothered travelling so we tried Balloons Chinese Cuisine out. To our amazement it was great. The menus were put together well the cuisine was authentic Chinese I am a Sichuan food buff so when they had several dishes on the menu my wife and I were amazed. Try it out and if you know your Chinese then you will love it. It is operated by an older Chinese couple and is feels like we were back in a little family restaurant in China.

Very tasty food in a very buzzy atmosphere. The queue was quite long and after my meal, I could understand why. Prices are reasonable for the quality.

We had a family gathering there and the food served was fabulous. It is not your typical Chinese food, traditionally. It is pretty modernised and suited our palate. Presentation was very good. Service was a little slow at times but the waiters were quite attentive. All in all, an experience worth remembering.

This spacious little joint tucked away on Portman street was a surprise! My generous, tasty and filling bowl of homemade dumpling soup with a side order of Chines broccoli with oyster sauce (perfectly cooked!) arrived about 3 minutes after I ordered it! Fabulous service and great value really cheap! There s a window where can watch Mama making the delicious parcels and she makes it look so easy!

I have frequented this restaurant many times and have always had a great experience. Staff are friendly and attentive, the menu has a great selection (including vegetarian options and wine selection), and the food is always fantastic - flavourful and very good sharing portions. I am always left feeling satisfied and eager to come back. If you're looking for a great place to take someone special for dinner, or you're just interested in enjoying some really great Chinese cuisine, I highly recommend you give this place a try. I have yet to come here for lunch, but will certainly be hopping on TA to review my experience.

The Taiwan Cafe serves real Taiwan food, it's like being back in Taipei, crowded tables and everything. The food is typical Taiwan street food, as it once was. Good Taipei restaurants now get Michelin Plates to boast about . The staples of this restaurant are noodles and dumplings. It's good value and good filling food that will keep the worms from biting.
We had dinner at this place. This is new Japanese restaurant in Chadstone shopping centre. Cuisine is modern , so is interior design. Service was absolutely professional and almost invisible. We had eggplant miso, baked scallops, four gras chawanmushi and chips for entree. For main we choose crabs somen, Japanese chicken curry and salmon anytime. We finished our dinner with boba cake, strawberry, basil and figs cake and firework cake for desert. All dishes were extremely delicious. Only one negative point that I had to pay additional 10% holiday surcharge.

TIP. Restaurant is on Stephensons Road. Large car park at rear, with rear pedestrian entrance into restaurant.Smart looking table cloths. Two of us sat in a 4 person booth - nice, comfy, roomy seating. Long tables are available for small groups. At 6pm on this Saturday there were plenty of spare seats.TIP. BYO wine is permitted, but $7 per bottle corkage. The in-house wines are reasonably priced, so leave the BYO at home. Wines available by the glass. Beers available. Food is Hakka style (region in SE China) with Swedish influence. The #5 Hakka Fried Prawns with Steve's spicy Hakka dipping sauce were a delicious entree, and the Masala (spicy) Fish main course (pictured) was absolutely scrumptious - so full of spicy flavours - with Egg Rice side dish. And the Swedish Cake w ice cream for dessert was really good also. We'll have to go back again.
