We visited Hannappel for dinner in November with a smaller group during a medical fair in Duesseldorf. The restaurant is located in the outskirts of Essen and therefore at least a 15 minute cab ride from the center of Essen. Despite being not to early only two other tables were occupied, which gave the evening a somewhat stiff atmosphere. The restaurant itself is in a older building but the dining room looked modern and contemporary. The menu is fairly limited and has a focus on regional products with a slightly modern and fancy touch. The quality and taste of of the amuse-gueule, starters and the main course was flawless. Despite the good taste and presentation we were not completely satisfied with our visit. Firstly the service strongly needs to be improved. Despite having three servers in an almost empty restaurant none of them really took care of us personally after we placed our orders. Nobody asked if we cared for more water or wanted a second bottle of wine, so we had to remind them a couple of times. Nobody was interested in recommending a bottle of wine and after I selected some Italian red and asked for alternatives very little to none came back from the server. Secondly the quantity of the main courses was fairly limited, so we would have left hungry if we had not ordered appetizers and dessert. Also a little awkward that the chef de cuisine showed up at the bar a couple of times and chatted with the servers but never came around to introduce himself or asked if we were pleased. All these are just some minor flaws and no big deal but I would like to see these improved since the work of the kitchen was excellent.

We were staying at a hotel nearby - we had just come back from the veltis arena @ 11.30 pm and our hotel did not have any food available at this time - they recommended the Windsorwe were very glad they did.A warm welcome awaited us - we were given a menu in English and the food was embarrassingly HUGE and tasty - the chef came out to my husband twice to check that his meat was ok - and my son and i had salad and chips which were totally perfect. An amazing unexpected experience i will never forget.

Have been to Schloss Berge several times in the last 3 months and always for business diners. The hotel / restaurant is located in a picturesque park area, which is well maintained, and the property buildings and interior are also well appointed and maintained.Food is mostly German cuisine served in generous portions and consistently good. This is a down-to-earth cuisine that seems to cater more to those enjoying a good German beer or German wine with their meal. Gourmets & foodies looking for the next big dining experience may find other restaurants in the region more to their liking. Nonetheless, everything my colleagues and I had at Schloss Berge was well cooked, well presented and a joy to eat. We also felt that the service provided was consistently very good, and that staff and waiters are very attentive to customer needs.I recommend this property for relaxed dinners in style in groups of max. 4 people who come very hungry and appreciate a good Schnaps after getting some good carb- and fat-rich German cooking into their bellies.

Situated in the town's center close to the dome, this authentic German restaurant / bar offers the full "German experience". Wonderful ambience, full of locals, very friendly staff... and serving lots of traditional dishes. We had the Schweine Haxe and the Schnitzel...both great. Price very reasonable. We'll be back !Thanks, Youre Welcome !

Went here for a business gathering. Big group but the service was very good. Food was good with reasonable choice. It is located in an area that is worth visiting i.e. protected old collieries which have been turned into museums, very interesting. Would go here again.

As close as you will get to an authentic steakhouse in Germany. We Canadians are spoiled by the quality of meat we get here compared to that offered in Europe. This restaurant is not going to compare to Ruth's, Mortons, The Keg, but it does get you as close as you will find in Europe. If you need a steak, this is a good place to get one.
