Firebird Cafe

Firebird has been an established restaurant for many years. The food is quick and casual. One orders at the counter and the meal is brought to your table. It's been a long while since I dined there because my daughter had worked there years back, so I had knowledge about the questionable food prep standards. This time I ordered huevos rancheros. I confirmed with the gal that it came with poached eggs, yet it arrived as over-easy. The meal was good, but swatting flies was not. I ate with my right hand and swatted with my left. There is possible good news, as this restaurant moving to a new location at Five Corners, about 1.5 miles east on Rte. 15. FYI, this owner owns The Nest coffee shop at Five Corners as well. I have not been there, for obvious reasons. See my photo of the Huevos Rancheros.

We were heading to the Lake Champlain to have a picnic and stopped at Great Harvest Bread Company for our food and drink. The sandwich choices will meet anyone's tastes...we all chose different types of sandwiches and we all found them delicious!!! The cheese and toppings assure that they have an endless variety of possible combinations!!! The breads...as you would expect...were especially good. They also offer a large number of dessert items...many disguised as sweets that appear to be good for you.Needless to say, we can recommend that if you are in Burlington...or passing by on the Interstate...and have a desire to go down to Lake Champlain for a nice break from the fast pace to have a picnic...by all means stop here for your picnic supplies!!!

Had brunch on a Saturday. Cozy and a little cramped while waiting but so worth it. Started with a Negroni Popper, served in a tiny bottle to be poured over ice and an orange peel. Husband also thoroughly enjoyed his draft Stout. I ordered the patty melt and side of beets with goat cheese and honey. I was going to get fries but opted instead for the hash brown. So glad I did! While it appears as one unassuming rectangle, it was the perfect combination of golden, crispy outside and creamy, luscious inside. The patty melt had carmelized onions, gruyere and was on buttered rye. Husband had the chicken sandwich and loved it. Though sitting very close to others, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and their meals. I also bought a chocolate and caramel tart from their beautiful pastry display to enjoy later. It was so good I bought another for the ride home the next morning!

Stopped to catch up with a friend over light lunch. Small space attached to another very busy restaurant (may be a shared kitchen). Menu relatively light but varied and well-delivered. Lots of natural light. Relaxing, enjoyable space, good food and coffee (also beers and alcoholic drinks available) and friendly staff. What's not to like?

On our last day in VT before heading back to NH we went to this fantastic breakfast place. It didn’t open till 8:00 on Sunday and we were a little early. It’s a little hole in the wall and my sister was leary. My neice Kelly checked it out and said it was really cute inside. I would have gone anyway because usually its these litlle places that serve the best food. I had another incentive and that was to buy some of their pinwheels for a family outing later that day. Well it was very nice and so was the staff. The food was great. I had the Eggs Cassidy, poached eggs with hollandaise serve on corncakes wirh chili. Yum. My daughter had the lemon ricotta pancakes. I always forget to take a oic of my plate before I eat. The family loved the pinwheels.

What a find! Kind of an out-of-the-way location, but well worth the search. These folks have it down as far as vegan food is concerned. So many options, and they even make their own seitan. The vegan among us was thrilled, the vegetarian too, and the folks new to vegan food thoroughly enjoyed their dinners and plan to return.

Sneakers features the absolute best breakfast sandwich I have ever tasted (egg, turkey sausage, arugula and red pepper mayo on a brioche bun) and the tastiest french toast (made with a kahlua batter). Both are very well priced, the sandwich coming with excellent breakfast potatoes and the french toast with 2 eggs. How to choose? Don't! My suggestion is to have the sandwich with a single slice of the french toast on the side. And the coffee is fantastic too
