As of 30 November 2017, the city had an estimated population of 162,034, and a population density of 380 persons per km in 65,439 households. The total area of the city was 206.57 square kilometres (79.76 sq mi). Ōgaki was the final destination for the haiku poet Matsuo Bashō on one of his long journeys as recounted in his book Oku no Hosomichi. Every November the city holds a Bashō Festival.

After our boat ride near the river, we were recommended to try this cake shop by the locals. We ordered a slice of cheese pudding cake and a strawberry short cake. Drinks were earl grey tea and soy latte which I truly recommend. It was very good. On to the cake, the strawberry short cake was good and no "weird" cream smell that sometimes I detect in others. Strawberries were fresh and sponge cake was moist. But the cheese pudding cake was more better. Not overtly sweet yet the texture of the pudding was not too hard yet not too soft. It was good. The cafe has limited seats and the locals were buying cakes as take aways.
